Did you notice during the first molt that they got more throat spots or they darken up? I am sure this can be with other mutations too...

Check it out.

Pretty before:

you can't see but they were pencil thin on the one side

Today picture

see the darken and larger throat spot coming in

Usually they seem to get more of them, so they're more pronounced. Piper's only got them on one side. I think Paris actually lost a couple but he's mid-molt so I'm expecting them to return. This is his second molt, actually.

One thing I've noticed in general is that after the first molt, all their feathers look better. This was especially apparent in Pixel since she's yellow. She went from a dull yellow to a really vibrant, rich yellow color. Piper's sky blue also got brighter and richer and her white feathers look so much better than they used to.

I hope that happens with him, he still has the faint yellow band on his tummy and the faint spot on the back of his head :P. His molt is actually very light and slow, probably because we keep our furnace down pretty low with the gas prices being expensive.

I just think it is so cute, giving him even more character to his appearance.

Since we started using the heat, my birds' have been molting really oddly. It's funny how they react to such subtle changes.

Slowly but surely, he'll molt into brighter plumage. :D A good diet definitely helps as well.

Pixel used ot have a pretty blue stripe down her belly and molted it out. I miss that. :P

It's neat how the spots give them such character. So cute!

Bunny and Little are both molting now.. Yesterday Bunny gave me a really hard bite on the nose.. OUCH.. Carrington only got a tiny bit brighter after her first molt.. but she was so brightly colored to begin with.

Carrington is so cute (Laughing out loud), I just love the spots.

Thanks Terri, yes I am working on diet for sure. He is finicky, I will give him a mixture of veggies in the AM with a seed mixed in there. He does eat the veggies. But by PM he is chirping for more seed :P.

Side note to add to this post, I also noticed that he is getting grey lines through his blue on his tummy, he has about 3 of them coming in darker.

you can actually see it in the 2nd picture
