They Even Defy Hormone Shots!

Featured Replies

:D Thanks Lovey, but won't the budgie breeders club be on me soon? I fear those pics are too big even though I tried to shrink them and did per Photobucket. Had quite a time getting Comet and Star in their cage tonight, guess they are making up for lost time but they truly seem happy since they don't have any more eggs to worry about!! And neither do I!!! :ausb: Freedom.

I show 231x151 pixels so I believe you are just fine :D Yes they can rest and be budgies.

:ausb: Thank you so much, they still look HUGE to me but then they are weird budgies!! :D

 I am so happy to report that the hormone shots have kicked in and the crazy couple are acting like normal budgies again :D However, they are bugging the "enemy" budgies to no end and I can't get them back in their cage as easily as before. Did take some pics but they turned out black? So no idea what I am doing incorrectly this time. Just am at peace for now. :)

Happy to hear that thing's are going back to normal in bidgie land....hopefully they stay this way for a while.

best of luck

 Thanks Candace,so nice to see "normal" budgies for a change, no eggs, no x-rated behaviour (like at 0600 when I am eating breakfast). :)

(Laughing out loud) dont mean to laugh at your pain of seeing xrated birds at 6am but its kinda funny thought...someday you will laugh too...(Laughing out loud)

:D Well, those hormone shots didn't work very well even at a double dosage, they are at it again as I post (at least it isn't their usual breakfast time copulation). Will phone my vet tomorrow and complain, this is getting really expensive with no results. Am picking up their new "same sex" companions next weekend, this is just so weird and crazy!! And then I see all these posts about people having problems breeding, why me? :D
:D Do these little goofs qualify for the guinness record book? :D I have managed to show my lovebirds (a real far shot for even getting together, but they did) that breeding is not an option, I am totally astounded as I would imagine my vet and this club are. Am not feeling well as I slipped on ice today and had a bad fall and this is the last straw. :D

Oh dear, I would love to be able to solve this problem for you. It really is sooo unique, those two are soooo in love, it's unbelievable! Really, though, you should be careful what kind of videos you watch when the birds can see too... :(:(:(:(:P:P

:( Nope, the only view they can see is out of the back patio window and the mini blind front window, I hope and pray they will get along with their new cage mates. And it snowed today but mostly melted by now. This all defies reason.: :(

oh man, I hope you are okay today and not too sore

True Love  too bad you can't just them fixed like a dog or cat

 Well apparently you can but it is a very risky and expensive operation and I don't think it's done around here, not an option. Hopefully Star will get along with Coco and Comet will get along with Buddy. :hap:

I read it in the bigger parrots, a big topic on one of the rescue boards.

Some for it and others against it but reading on it, it seems that if the bigger parrots are fixed, it can help with behavioral issues that are due to hormones.

:ausb: Phoned my avian vet today and advised her the hormone shots, even with a large dosage didn't work again!! She cannot understand it at all, anyhow their same sex partners will be arriving next weekend, the new female used to lay eggs when she was housed with a male but has been egg free for over a year after she was separated, I would imagine Star will continue to lay eggs but on not such a daily basis. The young male sounds like the invigorating companion that Comet needs. I had a day off today and saw those little goofs going at it 4 times!! Just took time off to quickly scoff down their fresh veggies and part of their fruit and are back to their canoodingly and cage destroying ways, have replaced the paper 3 times! :D

:P Okay, so Star laid a perfect little egg today (thought it should have been at least a day earlier) and still looks like she has an egg bum. They are happily buzzing around and bugging the other budgies right now. I get their same sex cage buddies in 5 days, I was going to buy a stand and put the males on top and girls in the middle,(the companion girl Coco, used to lay eggs until she was removed from the male). On second thought, maybe I shall put the girls in my bedroom on my desk, they can look out the window and I am sure they will be just fine (hope my snoring doesn't bother them). Comet, my randy male, loves everybody and will quickly adapt to whomever is put in his cage. Do you think putting the girls in my bedroom, away from the flock is a good idea? and then gradually introduce them into the room?. My rescue lady was asking about fostering a CAG (Congo African Gray) which I have before, but thankfully she has a potential adoptive home (poor owner, she is dying of cancer and the Gray knows it and has started to pluck). Birds can just be as intuitive as dogs and cats. :hap:

I think it's a great idea to put the girls in your room, at least for a while. Easier for you to reduce their daylight there too, just to make sure that the egg laying hen doesn't give the other one eggy ideas :hap: :P:D

:P Yes, I hope not, but hopefully they will talk each other out of it, I don't know what to do anymore. :hap:

start your own business as a fertility consultant to bird breeders :hap: :P:D

:hap: I think not, just changed the shredded cage paper and the sweet little egg is cold and both of the happy pair are back in the cage. Star is kind of eyeing it but not particularly interested at this time. I think separation from superstud, geriatric Comet is the best idea yet, maybe it is HIS fault!! :P

Oh, blame the boy! As the mother of 3 boys, I have to say it is ALWAYS the girl's fault :hap: :P:D:D

But, good news if she's not overly interested in the egg!

:P After much hesitation she has now decided to sit on it. :hap:

Oh, Phoebe, you just don't have any luck at all do you???? :hap: :P:D

:D Well something very interesting happened today. Didn't appear Star sat on the egg last night but she did when I was leaving this morning. Just arrived home to find all the cage paper shredded and the egg definitely pecked open and eaten!! It sure wasn't an accidental little crack at all. Maybe they knew the egg wouldn't be any good due to the hormone effect? Can't imagine why this would happen after all those eggs have been laid previously, any ideas? There will be another one to replace it tomorrow morning as they are back to the "destroying my breakfast" routine........ :)
