They Even Defy Hormone Shots!

Featured Replies

:ausb: Thank you for your suggestion August. This is actually more about group dynamics, I believe that Star and Comet are a bonded pair and nothing will come between them, they will do anything to get back together. The only healthy solution for Star is to get her into a home where she is the only budgie, she may lay eggs from time to time but she won't be laying them 365 days a year. She is looking really good and vibrant in my bedroom, out of the stress of being with Comet or another bird, where she can watch cars whizzing by (it is only supposed to be 40 kms but the drivers go more like 80 kms and she can watch them and the birds outside). I feel sorry about letting her go but this is to save her life as to reintegrate her with other birds will only result in more egg laying or if coupled with another female companion, she could possibly injure her. :) If there was another way of keeping her, I would but she can't stay in my bedroom forever.

i was just thinking that with out that breeding stimulation she may not actually lay eggs,(but thinking now it isnt so much physical stimulation its vocal and mental isnt it...) but as long as you find her the right home everything will be better. she sounds happy, i'm glad you figured out what to do before it was too late

:ausb: Thanks August! If her little body can defy massive amounts of hormone shots, she definitely needs to be in a home where there is no stimulation ( my Rosey Bourke became eggbound a couple of years ago without a mate but now she is just fine, had to have a few Luprin injections). People suggest I treat my birds too well but I can't stop on that! Unfortunately it seems to be taking time for Star to get adopted, my normal rescue lady is pregnant and cannot take on anymore birds at this time, if, after Star is not adopted after another month, may have to take her to another reputable rescue where she will eventually forget Comet.

:)

i know your in Bc, but have you talked with FFARRA, from what i've heard they are really good, really picky about the adoption proccess which is good. a few of the ladies that run it are with the local parrot club and they are the neatest ladies its far but its another good rescue, http://www.parrotrescue.ca/ and tell your rescue lady to not be pregnant... geeze only thinking of her self what about all those birds that need her help! ;D best of luck for both of you

 Thanks August, I know my rescue lady is glad to be pregnant and doing the best that she can, she is just a fantastic and wonderful lady, I may foster some of her rescues for a bit if needed. There is another rescue here should I get desperate but my sister lives in Edmonton so should my sis come visit in the next month or so, shall consider whether she can transport Star to Alberta, hopefully she can be adopted by then.

In the meantime, everybody is healthy and happy! :P

 DO NOT EVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF BONDING! I have had Star in my bedroom now for a few weeks and she is looking really good, eating well, singing away and awaiting adoption. The calling between her and Comet has settled down somewhat. She really enjoys looking out the window and seeing everything happening, the traffic and other birds. I have been letting her out every day with the bedroom and ensuite door closed and she is fine and goes right back into her cage. However, she squeezed through the hole in the bedroom door today and everything went right crazy! Comet happened to out of the cage with his new cagemate Buddy, and the first thing Star did was attack Buddy! Buddy is a little bit tame so I got him back in the cage and closed the door, she proceeded to snap at the other budgies. Thank goodness my landlord was home (I don't have a net as I have never needed it and have a partially collapsed lung due to my rib fractures). This pair DID almost everything they could amongst kissing and feeding each other. After about 20 minutes we were able to round everybody up, I am wiped and my landlord is incredulous. When they have bonded there is no other way than to separate them, I knew that but lesson reinforced today and will be clipping Star's wings (it has been awhile) as well as Comet's. I feel so sorry for them.

that is absolutely amazing - glad everything got settled down.

Oh the poor loves! It's such a shame that they can't be together, and I know it breaks your heart.

 Thanks Lovey and Lin, it got quite crazy, like they had never been apart, they were trying to smooch and feed each other despite us trying to separate them! It is quite a gloomy day here and is getting dark so everything has returned to normal and they are not calling to each other. Will clip Star's wings (haven't bothered in a bit as she hasn't wandered far afoot). But it is quite obvious if I let them, they would be back to laying eggs tomorrow!

Wouldn't we all love to have a bloke to love like that? That is true love :wub::wub:

:ausb: We sure would!! At least her adoption request mandates staying in an only budgie home which I think is essential. She seems quite happy watching out the window, singing and playing, but then goes nuts after being reintroduced into a mixed sex environment and quite frankly, she is the prettiest she has ever looked. :ausb: I can imagine her being best suited to a senior or disabled person, she is very attentive and usually will go back into her cage when you want her to but she just got all fired up and impossible today. :D

I hope she finds the home she deserves. Poor love.

:D Thanks Lin, me too, she is really an attentive little budgie, likes her greens, returns to her cage when you want her to (well, MOST of the time). is pretty, eats a variety of seeds and sings quite a bit now that she is off by herself. :ausb: My rescue lady has two other budgies at this time, one a younger male so I don't know if Star will stand out, all I care is that she goes to a good home.
