Posted January 30, 200619 yr I've brought a pair into the house, in a breeding cage. I've never used a breeding cage before, so it's definately a learning curve. Especially as the female isn't quite in breeding condition, I'm trying to force her into it. But, I still give them free flight time in the house (hope I'm meant to), basically because of scenes like this! Hey dudes, whatcha doing in there? Breeding? Hey Pommy, quick, help me get them out! What if they have a baby that the slave thinks is cuter than us????
January 31, 200619 yr If you want them to breed Lin you could have left them in the breeder cage in the aviary. Letting them out for flight time might not be such a great idea if you want them to bond with each other.
January 31, 200619 yr I haven't got a sturdy shelf in the aviary for them, and I want to play with the babies (selfish I know!) which is why I brought them in. They have already bred together, it's just the female hasn't got a really dark cere yet. If it doesn't work out, well it doesn't, although looking over now whe has gone into the nest box, 2nd time that I've noticed she has, so fingers crossed
January 31, 200619 yr That's what I think too Karen. I was about to ask where the box was but then a saw the hole int he side of the cage.
January 31, 200619 yr Hope all goes to plan for you Lin, the babies are terribly cute to play with so i cant blame you for wanting to try them and see how they go inside
February 2, 200619 yr They don't seem too interested in the breeding box. Terri pointed out, which I so stupidly failed to realise, that I shouldn't be breeding birds with a bird with Beak and feather. So, they have gone to my parents house to have babies, hopefully they will get interested soon
February 6, 200619 yr No interest from the female at all. The boy budgie has shown his interest a few times, and been aggressively attacked :(Laughing out loud): Her cere is still not showing that she is in breeding condition. They did move to my parents house not that long ago, but they are still in the same cage. I thought that I would give it a few more days and then maybe try again later
February 6, 200619 yr You should have seen her today. I filled up the seed container, and Daddy ate like there was no tomorrow. As I was telling my parents off for letting him get so hungry, they said 'Turn around, she's doing it now'. She finally managed to tip up the seed container (with the weight of the boy budgie on it :(Laughing out loud). All the seed spilt on the floor of the cage, and she spent the next 10 minutes kicking it all out of the cage :hap: I adore female budgies, they are sooooooo nasty :(Laughing out loud):
