:( Nerwen I just read this..... Don't worry about the PM I just sent....

Lets hope that this one egg might make it...... Well at least you have a found out the problem and how best to help her....

What are you going to do??? Did Danny say that she was carrying an other egg??

If this is a no go it might pay to candle the egg on Thursday to see if there's a chance and if not.. give her a rest... I am sorry to hear this news... :(

Thankd guys Yes Danny could feel the egg this moring and I double checked with him if I should stop her now with the breeding or not and he siad just to keep watching her and let her carry on with this cycle since budgie don't like to stop easily and laying egg over the place has it's own problems. She might have a highr risk of egg binding. I got fresh seed from pet stock on the weekend thankfully unopned so I when back today and got the finch he told me about (see food forum) and gave them that and the crummbles I got from him. Plus they got snow pea spourts today as their fresh food.

They are going to only have one clutch. It's not as if there isn't any chance of hatching just lessened around 35% Once the food in the big cage is ready for changing/refilling they are getting the Finch food too, looking at them now Pie is a bit on the plump side and Jangles as ALWAYS been big.

Nerwen please keep us up to date ... :(

I will Be Daz.

At lest she is still on time, if she was having trouble with the eggs she wouldn't lay it on the due date and around the same time as the other. (well only becuase I had a feeling it was laid sometime after 12)

2 eggs... :( Go girl Go... I hope for her sake they are okay.... Now the wait. :(

She is having fun, sitting away in the box brooding on them.

I'm glad to hear there have not been any problems with her passing this second egg. Hopefully all goes well. Don't feel bad though, overweight budgies are common and it DOES seem to be all of a sudden that you notice it. :( Sending happy vibes your way.

I actually thought of you Rainbow and when to reread what you where doing to drop you birdies down.

But egg three is here, and I know she is a great brooder she was once again NOT moving, I had to tap her away with a pen to get a look and even then she had a go at it before relenting (as in standing at the hole watching me)

Well I was going to wait for tommorrow and test two eggs at the same time, but I've been wondering about it since monday and the news that the eggs are most likely infertile. So I candled the first one.......

I hope I really am seeing some red lines and not just visualising some up from hope. I will be checking that one again along with egg two.

edit for today (17-02) - I candled the eggs again this time with two offsiders (mother and aunt), again i could see the lines in teh first egg and my mother agreed. The second egg......had lines as well  They seemed a bit stronger but then this one hasn't ben interpted from the brooding like the first one. Both of the others could see the lines in this one.

and egg number four is here on time again.

Thats great nerwen.. okay egg 1 is 6 days good to candle.. egg 2 is 4 days... okay a bit early to candle (i was told 5 days old is when you really know)..but the last ones I candled where at 18 and 16 days old. :P . Egg 3 is 2 days old and egg 4 is new.

Candle egg 2 tomoorow, egg 3 monday and egg 4 wednesday... lets hope eggs 3 and 4 are okay. :)

One thing I would do is to get a box of Budgie Starter. and slowly put the parents on that. You can get it from Brendale Produce or good pet stores. It is a protien base additive good for health chicks. If the parents get used to it they will be ready to feed the new born chicks. Start the parent on it about a week before the first egg is about to hatch .

:P Yeah I know egg two was a day early to try but I thought since I was bothering her already why not try it, that was anothr reason I was surpised that it seemed stronger then the first.

Seems like she is going okay. :P Let us know how the others candle?

Of cause I will This is the first time that candling as worked for me, but I know now I did it a bit late for Freckle's eggs. I tried around day 10 from reading it somewhere. I knew better this time.

I candled egg 3 today since I had already bothered her off the eggs and didn't find number 5. I know it's a day early again daz, but she had been sititng tightly on these eggs since the start. I was shocked to see yet again fine red lines in this one too, I candled this one two days back with the others so I could see the difference while it was clear but now I know it too it fertile :ausb: So far that is three out of four.

quick update- egg 5 is here.

Thanks guys :D

Tootie is a very good mother, she hate me going anywehre near the box and if out and see me dived back into it. She is going well and only sneezes a little bit when she is due again for another egg, when all her breathing space is squished again.

Egg 6 is due today so I will let you know when it arrives, or if she is going to stop now at 5.

Ohh :) I really thought I updated this.

She has stoped at five which is a great number for a clutch. Considering it looks as if egg number 4 is fertile too. I'm getting quite amazed at all these red lines :D Tommorrow I will be checking the last one and fingers crossed, we might get 5 out of 5 for fertile.

Oh I remember now I updated my web page, they have a page of their own the link is at the top of the page in the bird's area.

Just candled the last egg and it seems we have a 100% :) Now for the next bit waiting to see if they will hatch. The 1st is the due date for egg number one, but I'm not expecting it to hatch on time since I had to take mum to the vet at the start. Just giving you all the time line, and when to expect a new update.
