Posted January 24, 200619 yr Yay at long last I got everything ready and had a moment to move Marine and Tootie into my cage with the box attached As you can see in the pictures Marine was all excited Tootie wasn't as such. I was most glad that she was much calmer around my hands when I went to move her from cage to cage and I didn't get bitten!!!! Freckle was most upset that she didn't get moved close to the box, since she thinks she wants to lay again. It doesn't help with Pie all excited with the rain and what not I have decided that if nothing happens this time with these two I will try Pie with Tootie. He seems to like chatting up all the girls So now it's the waiting game. Edited January 24, 200619 yr by Nerwen
January 24, 200619 yr Author Thanks :oliveb: This morning they are having fun ripping the bark from the branch I put in right in front of the box. I'm so pleased becusae last time Both where acting scared of it. It's all a good sign. I'm going to have to get use to the 5 am singing but if there was nother room to put them in I would but that's life.
January 30, 200619 yr Author Step forward or backwards? Only time will tell. This morning I saw Tootie enter the box for I feel is the first time for she spend a few moments chewing at the entrance of it half in half out, and the other two time I’ve seen afterwards she had jumped straight in. I'm excited but also a bit worried since I haven't seen or heard any breeding as yet. They are in my room and so wake me around 5 or 6 singing with the ones outside greeting the sun. I have seen marine mount once but fell off almost straight away so I know that wasn't successful. Well fingers still crossed, I wonder if tootie is going to clean the nest out or leave the shavings in. Oh the excitement. Edited January 30, 200619 yr by Nerwen
January 31, 200619 yr I'm excited but also a bit worried since I haven't seen or heard any breeding as yet. Umm okay time for a stoopid question What noises exactly are you listening out for? do they trill a little different or something? (Laughing out loud) just asking so i can listen out for the birds in the aviary Cheers  Una
January 31, 200619 yr Author When your close enough to hear you can hear a funny rubbing flaping sound, and yes they still murmur to the hen while mounted as they keep beak to beak. Pie and Freckle would mate anytime there was a bit of light at night so I've heard it a few times when I've had to move the cage into my room before. Edited January 31, 200619 yr by Nerwen
January 31, 200619 yr Spangle is a nine to tener. She would lay her first egg nine or ten days after being put in the box. That would make it Thursday for the first egg.
January 31, 200619 yr seems ill have to keep my ears open then so how long from mating till the first egg? 9 to 10 days?
January 31, 200619 yr It looks so cozy! Since you're going to have more budgies, may I please have Ringo now?
January 31, 200619 yr Author Once Lin gets Pika I'll give you Ringo (now i'm safe) Yes Daz I know it takes around 10 days from being paired or mating for the first egg to appear so I’m not hold my breath for one tomorrow or anything. Just I know some hens can 'hide' out in the box so nothing happens and I don't want that to happen. But looks good she had been out in the cage for most of the day (or when ever I have walked by) I'm just surprised at the difference between these two and Freckle and pie, but they did have a big difference in starting since I caught Pie mounting Freckle one day and it was about a month after that before I added a box so they were well and truly bonded, while Marine and Tootie seem to have some work to do yet with that. February 1, 200619 yr I'm relieved to not have to put up with mating noises at ridiculous hours in the morning anymore. Gherkin was a very vocal boy when he was doing his part of parenting. :(Laughing out loud): He had a very excited warbley sound he made. I hope that they've been mating in secret Nerwen! I soooo want to see Marine/Tootie babies.
February 1, 200619 yr Author Oh me too bea I keep away as much as I can in the day in hopes they surprise me
February 2, 200619 yr Oh i gave up on waiting on the sidelines.. I'm beside the nesting box with my ear pushed up listening for "funny rubbing flaping sounds" and "the daddy murmuring to the hen while mounted as they keep beak to beak" :hap: Edited February 2, 200619 yr by una
February 3, 200619 yr Author Una you will be happy to hear that they are still try to get this flapping rubbing niose down pat I saw them today once again trying but the balance isn't fully there yet. It was funny just after seeing that I spied Pie and Freckle again at it in the big cage about 2 minutes later It's as if they are rubbing it in Marine and Tootie's faces at how easy it is.
