Thoughts On A New Cage

With school getting closer and closer i'm beginning to get worried, both about school and leaving Stinks. :) I would really LOVE to buy Blinkie one of those flight cages (like Terri's) so that he can fly around while i'm at school. I can get one for $50 or $60 from the local pet shop however i have a few problems that might come up. 1. Dad won't let me buy a new cage (we already have......3 spares and if we got another Blink's current cage would make 4), 2. It won't fit anywhere in the living room. So, i now have a few questions. If i can't get Blinkie a new cage would he be happy in his current one (15"d x 18"h x 20"w) for the whole time i'm at school and possibly more time after school (don't know how busy i'll be and stuff). If i can get him the new cage and i can't make it fit in the living room would he be happy in my bedroom? I could make it so that when i'm on the computer, doing homework or reading i'm in my room but i'd feel bad about anytime i wasn't in my room. The advantage of the living room is that someone is nearly always in it and there's usually a lot of activity (although really when me and Tim are back at school dad'll be at work and mum will probably be out). Which would be more important at this stage? The extra space or the location of the cage? :P

I'm not sure, that's a hard decision. Have you ever thought about getting Blinks a friend? It wouldn't be so bad to leave two budgies alone for the day. That's the main reason we got Eucy, so Quin would never be alone. But, you may not have the time to quarantine and tame a second inside budgie either... Although, if you take one from your aviary, you might not have to quarantine...

My feeling is either get a bigger cage for him to share with another budgie in your room, or keep him in his cage where he can see people in the lounge room. Or, squeeze the bigger cage into the lounge room, if you can. You and your family should decide though, you know him best.

I've been chatting to different people as well as bothering to measure different spots and i've decided to just leave him as he is in his cage. It would seem that i've underestimated my current cage because apparently that would be large enough for 2 budgies if they get some out of cage time. :) I'm not planning on getting him a friend anytime soon but maybe in the spring if i breed my budgies again? We'll see. :D

Sounds great. As long as he gets his out of cage time, the cage isn't such a big issue, but it is nice for him to see your family. Does anyone else ever let him out during the day?

If you have him out as soon as you get home everyday, he should have a few good hours of flying, right? If he has to stay in his cage longer once in a while, maybe your family could visit him and talk to him several times a day? My parents get a kick out of going to my room many times a day because they love to talk to the birds and iguana. Blinks would have even more time out of his cage on weekends too. It will make the time you spend with him even more precious. :)

He'll be out whenever i'm home, i'm sure. :D He doesn't like coming out for anyone else, i'm his favourite! :) And nobody else likes him, he's the "Evil Killer Budgie".
