Cage Placement

:P In preparation for getting 2 more rescue budgies to pair my "breeding without a nest box" couple, I have no idea how to fit in another cage. I read somewhere that birds prefer to be at eye level which makes sense to me so my Rosey Bourke has a cage stand that height, my 2 budgie cages are suspended from the ceiling with hooks and chains and my cockatiel and 2 lovebirds each have their own cages with floor stands that brings them almost to my shoulder when they are out and on top of their cages (which is most of the time unless it is the budgies free flying time). I have looked at stands (used by breeders) that I could put one cage on the top, another in the middle and the bottom space I could use for badly needed storage space. But would the budgies be happy when they are about waist high? :ausb: Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Well, my cages are all over the place, on whichever piece of furniture I can find. One cage is at Knee height. I don't have any cages at eye or higher height, as I feel that makes them think they are superior to me, and can cause aggression issues. Whatever height they are at, they are happ. They all get a lot of out of cage time, so they get to feel nice and superior to me then

:P Thanks, it would really help me to get a stackable solution. (As long as I don't have bend down too far to clean cages). :ausb:

Have a look at Terri's set up. I know she posted pictures ages ago, she has stackable cages

I've found that the budgies get a bit uneasy in the lower half. The 'tiels seem fine with it. They're just below waist level (well, the middle of the cage is just below the waist; the top is a bit above the waist) and it works out fine. :ausb:

:ausb: Maybe I can suspend the cages from the ceiling sideways? Then everybody could fit in. But then I am due to move within a year but that will work for now, but afterwards?, will spend a week thinking about it. Sigh. Thanks. :P

Blinkie's cage is about chest height (the top of it) but before i got my aviary i had the other birds on a little school desk which made them about waist height and they didn't mind at all.

Just to throw in Pretty is at waist height, perfect for my kids to interact with him, and I always bend down at eye level and he is very comfortable with the set up. Now if I put his cage on the floor he will then sit on a higher branch  So seeing the behavior I realize that he is probably too low for comfort until the cats come and visit him and then he is all preening, fluffying, kissing him (just insane) - through the bars and SUPERVISED.

:fear Thanks Lovey, like clipping wings and other stuff, it is an individual choice for each bird (and possibly dictated by space and cage requirements). :fear
