Female Parakeet Gnawing

Is it normal for females to gnaw on things in the cage. Does this mean she wants to breed or something?

All budgies like to chew and destroy, although the females do seem to do it more. It's just the way they are, nothing to do with breeding

Well what are female breeding signs?

Gnawing can be a sign of breeding readiness. They like to chew anyway, but increased interest can be one indicator that the hen wants to breed. Other ones are the darkening of the cere to a deep chocolate brown and an increased "wrinkly" look to it, allowing the male to feed her, showing interest in the male's courting behaviors, the searching out of dark places to hide when she's out. I think the biggest indicator is allowing the male to mount her. Unless she is really interested in breeding, she will not allow that to happen and will likely chase the male away.

Thanks her cere is darkening, she gnaws on the grit cup all the time and makes it fall everyday and she make the male preen her and feed her.sometimes she feeds the male.

she shouldn't be feeding the male, hen's only feed their mate when they are sick. Are you sure the male is old enough? she might be treating him like a baby.

They are same age if not, the male is older.

About 8 months. the male seems to be nearly a month older.

Oh they are still babies. They are just practicing. I wouldn't add a nest box for at least another 6 months if your intent is breeding them. It is cute to watch them, isn't it?

i have the same problem, but my male is 18months and my female is a year

Today they were preening and feeding each other like CRAZY!!!IT MADE ME SICK! The male has also been doing that bobbing dance.
