Hi all back again. Had some holidays and haven't been on. :D ........but i'm back.

Up to date.

Greeny & Duey.

6 eggs. 3 have hatched. This is greeny's first clutch so I was a bit worried about the first chick. Greeny didn't seem to be feeding him. I started to feed him every hour with a solution of warm mmilk and egg and biscuit. very diluted. He seemed to like this and got strong enough after the first day to Yell at mum to feed him. She got the idea. 2nd and 3rd chick have been good. no problems. I think I have one clear egg so far.

Bluey and Spangle.

4 eggs. 1st to hatch about the 23rd of January.

Bluey got sick after the first egg was laid so I put him on antibiotics. he picked up a bit but lost weight. I took him to the a great vet near Nerwen and got the bad news....Canker. :(

The whole flock is now on treatment. Don't know how he got it. ....no Karen, it definately wasn't from your birds. They are health and Happy in the aviary. They were in quarrentine when i set bluey and Spangle..

The vet said Bluey has a good chance to beat it. being with Spangle when he contracted it. I have they both togeather. Bluey is the only one to show signs, but I can't be too sure.

Spangle seems very happy and healthy and content to sit on the eggs. Bluey seem to like the company. I will weigh him this afternoon to see if there is a change.

Lisa, Bob and Jazz (Karen's Birds)

Doing great after quarentine. Lisa seems to like Razzel, Bob and Jazz are going well.

Now you are up to date.

Photos to come...this afternoon. :grbud:

Sorry to hear the new, daz, I hope they make it okay. :grbud:

I would be careful on giving the babies milk though. Birds have a lot of trouble digesting dairy products.

Thanks Terri but the one on the milk I got from a Very good breeder. I questioned it but was told that it was a good start to get the hen to feed them...Well it worked this time. :grbud:

:grbud: I see you found the topic.

I'm so super glad to hear that all is going well still and can wait for some pictures of them all.

it might help if you posted a topic the heath about the signs and treatment give for little Blue for Canker so if other see the same thing can get help faster. (not that many here don't rush they pets to the vet)

Have fun on the rest of your holidays :ausb:

That was my question Bea..too.

Glad everyone is doing okay so far, look forward to those pictures :)

Canker is an infection of the crop and upper and lower intestines. Common to Pidgiens and Canaries. Australia was free of the budgie strain until someone imported a budgie from england that had it.

We are unfortunate that we have just got the medication from england but the virus has mutated to one of some resilliance.

Bluey has the infection in the crop and mostly the lower intestines. I weighed him yesterday and he had put on 2 grams. :D

Here he is.

She really has become a good mum. :P

I'll update the photos in a couple of days.

Bluey looks really sorry for himself doesn't he. Poor little guy. I think he deserves some millet Daz. Your babies look adorable. Only a couple of months and I can have another clutch myself...

Thanks Lin. He has a fresh Millet every day. But I can't give any of the flock their vegitables. They have to have their water / medication. This time next week they will be back on to it.
