Posted January 10, 200619 yr Well here's the story: When I went out to check on my budgies this morning I noticed that one of them was holding his break out in a weird position and it had blood on it. When I looked closer I realised it was broken with a chunk missing from one side! He wont be able to eat with it like that and I don't know if he can drink so I'm afraid he might die. Does anyone know if breaks can repair themselves and how long it might take? I'll probably have to push the beak back into place but I don't want to damage it further or hurt him. Help!
January 10, 200619 yr Don't mess with the beak. Put your bird in a small cage in a warm room. Cover it to keep him calm. And get him to the avian vet like YESTERDAY. Yes, he can die from this. And the beak is a very sensitive part of your budgie so he is undoubtedly in a great deal of pain. Don't wait, get him to a vet now. I would take him to an emergency vet now if nothing else is open. (No clue what time it is where you are but if you can get him to an avian vet, go for that first.)
January 10, 200619 yr Definitely get him to an avian vet asap. I suggest you ring: http://www.canberravet.com.au. This is the best avian vet i know of in Canberra and is where i take my budgies. Make sure you tell them it's an emergency and they should be able to see you probably this arvo. Hope your birds beak can be fixed.
January 10, 200619 yr Thanks. I'll definately ring them now. I didn't know of any good avian vets in Canberra.
January 10, 200619 yr No, i had a bit of trouble finding that one too. Let us know when you get some news.
January 10, 200619 yr Well I took him to the vet and left him with them so they could look at him properly. They rang back but unfortunately his toungue and throat have gotten infected so they don't think there's much they can do. I don't know how he managed to do so much damage to himself. Poor little guy.
January 10, 200619 yr Poor bird! I have a boy who's chipped the upper and lower parts of his beak, I know how upsetting it is. I hope he's not too badly hurt.
