What Variety Of Birds Do I Need To Breed To Get A Gray

Hi everyone,

Can anyone explain the gray mutation and how to go about breeding to get one. THanks! :P

Does it matter what the other parent is?

The Grey colour is not a primary colour. You will need a blue and a greygreen. It is not a sex linked coour so don't worry about which sex is which colour. Start with a recessed Blue and a dominet Grey green.

Breed the Greygreen x Blue

Off spring you hope to have is a 50% Greygreen / (split to) blue.

Breed the Greygreen/blue x Blue

Off spring you hope will be 25% Grey.

If you breed a Greygreen/blue x Greygreen/blue

off spring you hope will be 25% Grey

From grey you can cross with other colours to get cinnamon, Fallow, Lime, Dilute and Faded because the grey pigmentation is effected.

THanks so much! Between my twin and I, hopefully we will someday have enough great birds to get a great gray out of them!!!

I think you need to have at least one gray parent to get grey babies.

that's what I've read...Yea...that's the best way to produce gray and since gray is dominant you will have a lot of gray babies but there are gray recessive out there too. Graygreen x Graygreen might produce gray babies too if they have the gray genes. An indicator if a graygreen carries a gray gene is that the tail is black...almost jet black. Good luck.
