Posted January 6, 200619 yr Well, she is being a good mom. I hope I am in the right forum for this. Just thought I would send a picture to you all who were so helpful to me!!! I do have one question though. I bought some food called oats and groats at Petsmart. It is made by Ultra Care Should I be soaking that for them just before the chicks hatch or should I just give it to them the way it is. Or, should I be buying the oats and groats elsewhere? Here it is, look close egg#2 is on the right
January 6, 200619 yr such a good mommy Took me a while but i finlly spied the second one. I'm sorry I've never heard of oats and groats, what does the packet say to do?
January 7, 200619 yr such a good mommy Took me a while but i finlly spied the second one. I'm sorry I've never heard of oats and groats, what does the packet say to do? It justs says to feed it in addition to their daily food. But I have read so much about soaking oats and groats for when the babies come. I thought maybe this is the stuff I am supposed to be soaking. Wendy
January 7, 200619 yr I just give oats and groats as treat food and not all my budgies enjoy them but my Rosey Bourke and cockatiel really love 'em. I think the seeds are a little large for the babies to handle. Edited January 7, 200619 yr by Phoebe
January 7, 200619 yr Glad she's being a good mum! Hey Nerwen, what colour is she? Looks strange. STRANGE!? I think she is so cute. But if you do know what she is, please let me know. She is kind of violet blue with gray wings. Wendy
January 7, 200619 yr For babies I just use egg and biscuit mix. You can give it either dry or wet. I give it dry to Mum from the time she lays eggs. When the babies are starting to feed themselves, offer some wet.
January 7, 200619 yr Oops, i didn't mean strange as in bad.....i meant strange as in different which is good! She's very pretty. The thing i thinks strange is the faded head bars (like an opaline).
January 7, 200619 yr Well if the oat and groats say for budgie I woud start to offer thenm some now, it's more for the mom/dad to eat to feed the babies. But use can also make osme home makde egg food. Hard boil and egg then crush it with some of the shell. Add fome fave fresh food and they will mucnh through it. What is she ?well i'm a bit lost myself the head make me think of opaline but the 'v' shape in the back doesn't match :/ Not havingflight wings makes it confusing too. But is is very pretty, what is dad?

But is is very pretty, what is dad? Well I am not really good at exactly what types my budgies are so here are some pics: This is "Frankie" the dad And this is the mom "Blue" peeking out of the breeding box. The color doesn't really show how purple she really looks, I will have to take a picture during the day withour a flash. It is not too hard to guess what the babies will look like! :dbb1:
January 7, 200619 yr so cute Frankie is an opaline sky blue. so you will get some babies like him. Blue might be a single factor violet. all blue babies some darker like her.

January 7, 200619 yr I think you can buy egg and biscuit mix in any pet store over in America. Americans? Can you help? Is it called something different there?
January 7, 200619 yr In Canada its called egg loaf, in Petland, by hagen... i think in a red box, usually nest to the treat sticks... i spend too much time in petstore, i feel so sorrt for all the little birdlets, nearly took half a dozen budgies home because they were in a small small cages with dirty water.
January 7, 200619 yr :hap: Can get them here as a "treat" food called egg biscuits. They are hard little cookie bars that measure about 3" by 1" and fit (squeeze) into a special plastic dish just made for them. :bluebudgie:
January 7, 200619 yr :ausb: Thank you everyone! I will get some today. I have seen the egg biscuits but I thought that was something different from a "mix" as you call it in Australia. Thank you for all your insight.
