Another Homemade Playpen :)

Featured Replies

Well I re-did my other playpen, although this time I didn't use natural branches :P even though I know budgies love them. This was because I wasn't sure where the branches I was going to use were from, and I thought it was better to be safe then sorry.

Here's some pics:

Unfortunately my friend is on holidays, so I had to do it all by my little self :P Everything except for the bell is homemade... I even managed to put together a little swing (Laughing out loud). It's still a bit dodgy... but I'm sure my little one won't mind :D

Looks fantastic :P

OOOHHH That is wonderful :P Great job. The way the bell is set reminds me of a temple bell :P I'm sure your one is going to have a ball hitting that over and over (Laughing out loud)

:P Lani it looks good but just a thought.. If this is the playgym you have used the liquid nails on (looks like blobs of it in the picture) Maybe try and trim up and remove the excess so that the budgie cant chew it..

Reading the post about it before, id be wary using it and id make total sure that the bird couldn't acess any glued bits :P

Just a thought

You sure must be excited about getting your budgie. True, you must be careful to use bird-safe materials. Have you spoken to the breeder you mentioned yet? Do you know what color you would like if you have a choice?

I'm going to call him some time this week, and I think I would prefer a blue, violet, pied, or yellowfaced budgie... but I'm really not that fussed :P. I've checked the type of woods that I made the playgym out of and they are all budgie safe.. it's only the liquid nails I'm worried about. I think it should be okay, because it's only an issue for humans if the consume liquid nails while it's wet, and of course the stuff on the playgym will be dry.

That looks great! I wish i could be bothered to make something like that.

got your birdie?

  • 2 weeks later...

It looks very nice. I think I´m going to try to make something too - but I´ll rather wait for the summer, it´s about -5 here :P

We´ve got a homemade cage waiting for our new born chicks (and their parents of course). My boyfriend built the most of it, but I was helping :P

Its 180x70x100, I hope its big enough for them :D

That's a very good cage!! Just one question which may seem stupid but where's the door? :D

I took this photo before I´ve made the door  .I´ve just taken a new picture with the door and everything. And you can actually open the top part too. There is a swing, a big ladder, a bath, 2 small bells, toys... I just hope the chicks will be alright, so they can see it too :P

(Laughing out loud)!! Looks very good all finished! :yellowhead:

:P Cool Cage.. Its great to see more and more people in here posting pictures of the home made cages and things that they have made instead of just going out and buying them :D VERY COOL

I´ve read the discussion about wires. I´ve never heard about this risk. I´m not really sure how safe is the wire we´ve used. I think I´ll go to the shop and ask them :D

I´ve just spoken to my boyfriend and he said that our cage is made from galvanised steel wire mesh. So I think its safe, isn´t it? :hap:
