Posted December 30, 200519 yr Hi everyone I just wondered if you could tell me at what age a budgie normally starts adolescence and also when a budgie is considered adult. Thanks. Luv Vonn xxx
December 30, 200519 yr Most budgies go through a nasty stage around 4 - 5 months old (about when they have their first moult i guess). I'm not sure when they're considered an adult. I was having an argument with my brother last night: me claiming that when Blinkie turns 1 next month he'll be a big boy while Tim said he was just a weeny baby.
December 30, 200519 yr I consider them adults at one year. That's when they are emotionally suitable for breeding so I guess that's about as close as you can get. They've also molted out of their baby stripes (if they had any) and usually have a lighter color to their iris (if they're meant to) by that age.
December 30, 200519 yr Author Thanks for the info. Luke is 5 and a half months old and when I first saw the vet he told me that Luke was beginning to get new feathers. I am not sure how long a moult takes but I often find little flulffy feathers everywhere so maybe he is still moulting. He hasn't had any 'moods' so he is going through adolescence with ease! Perhaps I am speaking too soon or maybe he is a late starter?! Luv Vonn xxx
