Green Face

The Crested Budgie: There are at least three varieties of Crested Budgie. It should be noted that the gene that causes cresting is dominant. Two Crested Budgies should never be mated, as the 'double crest factor' resulting from such a mating is lethal. The three types of Crested Budgies include the Tufted Crest, the Half Circular Crest, and the Full Circular Crest. The Tufted Crest Budgie's crest largely resembles that of a cockatiel. It extends upward from the top of the cere. The Half Circular Crest can extend upward or outward above the cere. The crest feathers are in a half circle. The Full Circular Crest Budgie has a crest that extends outwardly from the middle of its head. The outward extension is radial.

what's with the '...double crest factor resulting from such a mating is lethal'?

For every characteristic there are 2 genes - 1 given by each parent. what this is saying is, if you mate two crested budgies, the parents both give exactly same gene, and it will cause the baby to have a very short and unhappy, unhealthy life

Wow . Bea if you can't get it try at least to get a photo.... Please.

I hope it is still there, but it might be food colouring...

OMG Bea I have seen a budgie with a green face, but it was one of the rare blackface budgies. Daz it's ont he front cover of the muations book. Will check if I have scaned that picture if so I'll show you.

Bea, if the budgie has been sold, try and get the name of the breeder

Here:

I'm sure it can't be a black face, since Bea knows about these guys, but the face it has a green face means it might be real!!! For us unbelievers still :D

I've seen those in books nerwen but does anyone have a photo of a green faced budgie. I've seen white, yellow, black, but not green. :P

Very cool, didn't Bea say it was a pied? Is that a normal, it looks like the color went through the whole body and yes it looks like the black ones.

Melanistic (Black Face) Mutation. It is caused by the gene that controls the black/grey pigmantation on the wings going wrong. This causes the spread of the black marking to the head. The body colour is generally a Grey Green.

To breed a black face budgie you will need two. The mutation is not a dominent one.

Black Face x Normal = Normal/Black Face

Normal/Black Face x Black Face = 50% Normal/Black Face 50% Black Face

Normal/Black Face x Normal/Black Face = 25% Normal 50% Normal/Black Face 25% Black Face

Black Face x Black Face = Black Face

Imagine that black and green one without the black and more yellow on it's back, as far as i can remember that's what this one looked like. It was a pied.
