Posted December 3, 200519 yr I've always kept a small bag of budgie and cockatiel seed in the fridge, the bigger bag in the freezer and whenever I need to fill up the small bag I take it from the freezer. I've heard that you should keep it refridgerated, but now I just read this: DON'T EVER REFRIGERATE SEED to keep it longer!!! Freeze it if you must. Just keeping it in a plain brown bag or breathable poly bag should be a sufficient means of storage in most climates. Larvae is healthier than mold! Invisible mold will grow in a matter of a day or so in the refrig. From this site: http://www.plannedparrothood.com/diet.html
December 3, 200519 yr That would make sense because the refrigerator has condensation in it. Think about when you take out fruits and veggies they have moisture on them. The freezer is dry air. Thanks for posting this.
December 3, 200519 yr I looked at the site and I must say I tend to agree, it sounds very much like my own feeding habits and I have had some of my birds a long time. Volunteering at the Native ARC (Native Animal Rescue Center) here in Western Australia I see an awful lot of birds(especially parrots) usually sick and what we feed them gets them better just as much as the medicine we may give them. I Study conservation and land management in the hope that we can get a better understanding of our land and it's creatures, I think it helps when you live in the country that your bird is native to because you can see these birds in the wild, doing and eating things they have done to survive and thrive for a long long time.
