Posted November 29, 200519 yr Stimpy has been mounting Sky (who has been going into the mating posision (SP?) and her cere is a light brown) I've had the nest box hidden for months, but Sky seems to be looking for one :hap: ALL HELP APPRECIATED! Thank you Stimpy
November 29, 200519 yr Stimpy and Sky are young, aren't they? They probably don't have the mating thing down pat yet, so that is good. If you have already tried weekly rearranging of their cage toys and perches, limiting daylight hours to 10-12 hours, and slightly lowering the temperature, you may just have to cage them seperately for awhile. If you can't do that, then you will have to make sure there is nothing around that Sky could use as a nesting place.
November 29, 200519 yr I forgot to mention that Stimpy's Cere is a deep blueish-purpleish color. Thank you Rainbow :hap: I'll rearrange the perches, limit their light and lower the temp. Edited December 6, 200519 yr by Stimpy
December 8, 200519 yr I'm sorry for double posting but this morning i woke up to MATING in the cage :fear <<<me Ages; Sky: 8 months old Stimpy: 11 months old Edited December 8, 200519 yr by Stimpy
December 8, 200519 yr Separate them if the other things didn't work (and they obviously didn't, unfortunately). They're not old enough to breed and Skye's been having possible health-related issues lately. It would be best to separate them so that things aren't aggravated by the mating, you can monitor more closely, and of course, the mating stops. They won't like it but it must be done.
December 8, 200519 yr (Laughing out loud), that must have been a shock!! I agree that you'll have to separate them for a while Oh well as they say absence makes the heart grow fonder???? They'll love each other more when they're put back together.. Edited December 8, 200519 yr by Bec
December 9, 200519 yr If they're mating maybe Sky's going to lay an egg and that's why her droppings are larger. Definitely separate them, they are far too young to be breeding.
December 13, 200519 yr If they're mating maybe Sky's going to lay an egg and that's why her droppings are larger. Today I went to change Sky's water and found her sitting on her food dish, I shooed her away to find an egg :excl: :excl: :excl: Edited December 13, 200519 yr by Stimpy
December 13, 200519 yr I was waiting for this post to happen. Get rid of the egg and get fake ones or shake it and replace it until she gets bored with it. Do this if she lays other eggs as well. Have you separated them yet? Edited December 13, 200519 yr by eterri
December 13, 200519 yr I've seen the fake eggs at larger pet stores. They're extremely cheap and probably better than having to freeze/shake eggs. Maybe you can call around to see if any stores near you carry them?
December 13, 200519 yr Definitely destroy the egg somehow, she's way too young to have babies. I guess this explains the larger droppings.
