Posted November 25, 200519 yr ive got a few budgies and the scaly started on one of them, so i got some scaly face and leg treatment from the pet store and treated him, it worked very well it was gone in 4 days as it said it would be on the bottle, but it keeps popping up on all the birds and i was wondering if there is something u can do to stop them getting it rather than treating it when they do get it? can up spray somthing in there cages or something? please help...... thanks matt
November 25, 200519 yr Scaly face is caused by mites. You will need to get a safe insecticide, but first disinfect the cage and perches.
November 25, 200519 yr I'll also suggest consulting your avian vet for a product to use when doing this rather than buying it from a pet store. Pet stores often sell products that are harmful to your pets. Or at least ask your avian vet about it before using it.

Yes you can get a safe aviary spray at the pet store or your aviarian vet. I use Fidos that I got from a vet. You mix it up as directed and then dunk the birds. You then spray the aviary. It is great on mites and lice. I also use Chlorhexidine that I get from the hospital. I dilute it 10 to 1 and soak the perches and the feed containers. I do this once every 3 months. Becareful as Eterri says, most pet stores only sell products and don't really know alot about what the product is about. Edited November 25, 200519 yr by daz
