My two birds have not really stopped moulting since I got them (about 6 months now) but now the female is covered in pin feathers and there are tiny white feathers everywere and its driving me NUTS Can someone please tell me, is there anyway I can get them to stop moulting ? I've already used good advice given but it hasn't worked, I cover the cage at 10pm-10-30pm every night and it get uncovered at 9am-11am every morning and the cage is kept out of direct sunlight. Any advice will be gratefully recieved, many thanks x

How warm is your room? Birds moult when it is warm, try turning down the temperature a bit

I think indoor budgies sometimes moult almost constantly because of the steady temperature. It sure is annoying but in the end they are birds and that's what birds do. :bluebudgie:

do you think if i put them in a cold room it'll help ? obviously if it'll harm them then there's no way i'll do it but if it'll help then its worth a try. thanks for your replies.

You could try reducing the temperature slightly. I know Julie had a similar problem with one of her birds, and the vet gave her some great advice. Try doing a search for her post

all of my birds dropped into a moult as soon as the temp got colder and the night s shorter

Mine have too. I've got feathers all over the place and the temp in the house has only dropped about 5 degrees F. The shorter days seem to have helped bring it on. I always though warmer temps induced the molts, now I'm not so sure. I don't know what the ideal temp to stop the molt would be, but I also have noticed in winter with the artificial heat any birds I've ever had will seem to molt constantly until the heat goes off, or goes cooler.

 

I wouldn't put them in a cold room, but a few degrees cooler in the overall house temp might be worth a try if they've been molting for 6 months.
