Posted November 16, 200519 yr I'm worried, One of my young males has something growing in the corner of his eye. At first I thought it was seed but on closer inspection it is a light coloured sort of dry and crusty growth of some sort. He isn't acting different but I'm worried because it has gotten a little bigger. Does anybody have any idea what it might be?
November 16, 200519 yr The only thing i can possibly suggest is taqke him to an avian vet. Then the vet should be able to figuire out what the problem is and treat it. In the meantime you could get a photo and post it here, perhaps someone else on here has had a similar problem.
November 16, 200519 yr if it is crusty it sounds more like some kind of build up - very much like if humans get conjunctivitus. perhaps he got something in his eye or was pecked in the eye and has developed an infection? my advice is the same as Beas - he needs to see an avian vet as soon as possible whether it is a growth or an infection of some kind. get him booked in as soon as you can.

I will take him with me to the Native ARC (Native Animal Rescue Centre) when I go in on Friday and ask the lady there if she can look at him, I volunteer a couple of days a fornight so she will look at him for me, she is very experienced with birds we get quite a few of them in. I am so silly I don't know why I didn't think of it before!
November 17, 200519 yr thats great and no question is stupid at all! keep us posted on how he gets on.

I own 13 budgies and only 2 of them have ever got it. The first one seemed a little yellow and grew right beside her eye and it kept growing taller! But eventually it fell off. If you send me a picture i can see if it's the same. My other budgie has got it right now but i don't know how she got it either.
November 27, 200519 yr Hi minnie, I will get a picture of him tomorrow. Does your budgie have it on one side or both?
December 4, 200519 yr Yeah he has it both sides....he's still being his usual cheeky self but I have been trying a new ointment I got from the Native ARC so fingers crossed.
December 6, 200519 yr If the stuff works PLEASE tell me either on here or at- only2minnie@hotmail.com I'd love to be able to fix it! Ohhhh....... and I'll need to know the brand and everything. Thanks!

Thanks! :nest: :bluebudgie: I'm not sure that you should use anything before you know for sure what it is your dealing with, it might not be the same thing so it's probably best if you go to a vet or even a wildlife shelter. We are lucky being in Australia because the wildlife shelters are experienced with native aminals and Budgies being native to Australia.......they will also usually examine the bird free of charge. By all means post photos and people on the sight can offer their opinions and personal experiences but you really need professional advice and/or treatment..
December 20, 200519 yr minnie have you taken your budgie to the vets yet? No i havent do you think i should? And do you know if they will charge me anything? December 20, 200519 yr the vet will charge you for the examination and any medication they prescribe. if you think you might have trouble paying, phone the surgery first and ask how much the consultation fee is. if it is high, ask if they could set up some kind of payment plan. im lucky though - when i had a very poorly budgie i was going to the vets like twice a week so they know me so well they sometimes only charge me for the medication. they once only charged me £3!!
December 20, 200519 yr minnie if you are on the north side of Brisbane, don't go to the one at Eaton's Hill. He says he is an Aviarian Vet but he could tell the difference between a male and female budgie. There is a good one at Narangbah.
