Posted November 8, 200519 yr I got my first budgie yesterday I think he is a baby because he has stripes all the way down to his cere. I only wanted one for now because I wanted to tame him and bond before buying another one but my husband has a friend and his friend told him to buy him one because he works and did not have time to buy one, He wanted one for his wife, so my husband brought him one and put them in the cage together and I think they bonded together, all day yesterday they where kind of ignoring each other and where very quite but to day they are like picking at each others feathers and just being together and I feel bad because he is going to pick the bird up today. will my bird be upset with me when they take her away. what should I do? also wanted to ask is it normal for them to be so quite they don't even move they just stay there looking around and when I talk to him he closes his eyes like he is sleeping.
November 8, 200519 yr The quiet behavior is normal. They are scared. Your bird may call for the other bird for a little after he leaves, but he will be fine on his own. There are a lot of 'only budgies' out there. Was the other bird bought at the same time from the same pet store? When your husbands' friend picks up the bird, give him this website for his wife to check out if she wants. Maybe the name of your avian vet too, since both birds will need new bird checkups as soon as possible. What did you name your bird? What color is s/he?
November 8, 200519 yr I have only 1 also, and he is still very quiet after almost 2 months. Everyone says it is normal so I am not concerned. We spend time with him daily out of his cage, and talk with all the time when he is in his cage. He calls for us now, when he chirps we talk and he quiets down.

I not sure yet I like jeremiah but my husband wants kane I think it's a boy the cere looks kinda light blue to me but he is a baby I would have to wait and see, the other birds cere is like a pinkish I think she is a baby but she is so light you can hardly see the stripes she is a pale yellow with very pale green and pale gray markings and mine is white and a sky blue with black gray stripes and markings as soon as I take a picture i'll post it I't amazing how quickly you love them they are so sweet I put my hand in the cage and they don't go crazy they just look at me and they let me pet them and just now my bird jumped on my finger for a few second but got nerves and jumped off and went next to the other bird.
November 8, 200519 yr I don't think that taking the other bird away is going to make your bird dislike you. It will probably make whichever one you keep easier to tame and bond with. They both sound really cute and I'll look forward to seeing the pictures. It really is easy to fall in love with these surprising little creatures. Sometimes it can be hard to determine the sex of a young budgie, but a female will normally have white rings around the nostrils. Edited November 8, 200519 yr by HurdyBirdy

That is so sweet. From your description, the pale yellow bird sounds like a male, and your blue one sounds female. I can't wait for pictures.

I can't wait for pictures. you think, I thought it was the other way around my blue ones cere looks kinda blue and the yellow one looks pinkish purple I don't know, all I know is they are stuck together all day picking at each others face I feel so bad. and my bird was acting kinda bonkers today it was trying to hang up side down and sliding down the bars of the cage and doing all sorts of twists I was scared he was going to get hurt.
November 9, 200519 yr Don't worry about the little acrobatics they do on the cage bars. I had one hen who would go into a corner, flip upside down between her legs and fall asleep. They are very flexible little critters. In baby budgies females will have a bluey white cere while males have pinky purple ones, it's often pretty confusing seeing as it's sort of opposite when they grow up. :fear
