Poo All Over Tail

Featured Replies

We just got home from holidays, and I found one of my budgies, Bonnie, has as huge blob of really hard poo on his (Yes, it is a boy) tail. I have seperated him, and tried to get it off with a damp tissue, but it won't budge. Anyone know how to get it off?

If you can soak it try that. Run and inch or two of warm water in the bathroom sink and hold him in it for a few moments. You may have to "dip" him several times, and then try to remove it. If not, or he really freaks have someone else hold him in a washcloth and you can GENTLY try to trim it away with scissors. I'd try to get it wet first though. Is it preventing him from going to the bathroom?

I did the sink treatment, and we got almost all of it off, but he is VERY wet, so we'll try again mabye tomorrow. It is just below his vent, so he can go, but his poo is in strings, not in little "cowpats". He is still alive- he bit several holes in us, poor thing... we have put a lamp next to him to dry him out and keep him warm. He doesn't have any feathers around his vent. as I said, we have put him with his mate in a cage by themselves

Good. I'm glad you found a way to clean him up. Hopefully whatever caused this to happen has righted itself and he will be back to normal soon. If not, I think you should put a call in to your vet.

He is looking all fluffed up and happy at the moment, and is singing to his girlfriend...

Um... Poo had already started catching on the tail again. should I trim the feathers in the vental area?

If the poo is building up like this i think you should take him to the vets. It could be something serious.

if it has started to happen again then its the vets this is called clag and is normally a sighn of something else if left untreated clag can kill a bird as well as the other problem
