i have read through all of the breeding topics in this forum and the main problem that i found other people have with their birds is a pair who won't breed and lay eggs. but what about a pair who lay eggs and won't breed???? dianne is doing this yet again, and i don't understand why she wants to lay the eggs but she won't breed with jack!! every time he tries to breed with her she attacks him. he feeds her and gets all puffed up and dances around and she screams and pecks at him and then goes to the opposite side of the cage far far away from him!! i can understand if she doesn't want to breed with him but then why does she go and lay eggs?

well she really doesn't have much of an option unless i get another budgie, should i just take the nest box out for good? i hate to see her go through all the trouble of laying eggs when they won't even hatch. i want them to breed though, do you think that if i leave the box in they will eventually mate?

Maybe they do mate, but only when no one is around. I have read that sometimes matings aren't always successful the first time or two if the pair has never raised babies before. If she is laying again I would just leave the box in. Once she has her clutch, I would let her sit on them for the full term. After that you can judge from their behavior whether to take the box down for awhile or not.

laying eggs is no trouble for your birds its bringing up the young that takes it out of them it once took 18 months to get a pair of birds to breed (i was desperate to get this pair to breed) so you never know

hmm, i'll have to decide what to do after she finishes laying this clutch, maybe i'll let them have a try or two after that but if that still fails i think i need to put dianne into retirement or try some different mates with her first. i'll keep you posted on if these eggs are fertile, im doubtful though.
