okay today i was looking at my budgies (male and female) and I realized that her cere is looking brownish not crusty but like you can still see some brown what does this mean?

It just means that she's coming into her breeding cycle. It doesn't mean she has to breed, and she won't if you don't provide her with a box.

It could mean she's too young to breed.

My Mango is 5 months old, her cere's not dark brown, it's a light brown. I take it to mean that she's too young, and I'll wait until she's a year old, even if her cere goes dark brown beforehand, to breed her.

There are all sorts of shades of brown that are normal, from light tan to chocolate brown. It is okay if the cere isn't crusty too.

Ill try to post some pictures later on to show you.

and also thank you for the information

okay also i have a question. every since i got her we've had a nest box in their cage now that this is happening should i remove it since its her first time goin through this?

Hmm, how old is she? Has she ever had a crusty cere? How long has the box been in the cage?

I honestly dont know how old she is. and no she has never had a crusty cere. the box has been in there for about 3 months already.

Since you are not sure of her age right now, I'd take out the box. We can give you a better idea of things after you post a picture of her and her mate. :D

Your hen is much too young to breed now. :D I'd guess she is only about 5 or 6 months old. Did she recently go through any kind of molt? When you got her, did her bars go all the way to the cere?

They both are very pretty birds. Is the male about the same age as your hen, do you think?

Yeah she did molt I remember because I thought she was sick but i found out what was going on with her cause i didn't know what molting was. No when i got her she didn't have any bars down her forehead. The male is older, when i got him the pet store person told me he was about a 6 months old this was 2 years ago. And thank you i love my birds i take care of them so much so its really nice for someone to say that.

Their feather quality looks beautiful. They look so soft. But I would wait at least until next summer/fall before giving them a nest box, if your intention is to breed them.

Thank you soo much for your help. So if i take out the box there wont be any problems with her since she is so used to it.

No. She has no interest in it now anyway. She will be fine if you remove it.
