Feeding Patterns

:) Just wondering ...At what age does a chick stop getting fed from its mother?

Apple still has a feed of cereal first thing in the morning and then last thing at night, although the morning feed is getting less and less and he prefers to spit and flick half of it all over the place :D He is having seed during the day and any bits of fluff he seems to pick off the floor :P hahaa

I'm looking forward to a more seed/greens etc diet and less baby cereal as it doesn't make for pleasant little packages out the other end :D

Cheers

how old is Apple now? If he is eating seed I thinky ou need to take him off the cereal, slowly of cuase just don't stop it all. Reduce the amount for each feed so he need to eat more seed to fill up.

The mother usually stoped around the three week mark and this is when the farterh takes over all the feeding, to temped the babies out of the nest to eat so there is room for the next round. They should be eating seeds around the 5-6 week mark.

I think the babies will continue to be fed as long as the male is willing to feed them. :) LOL I had one hen that was still being fed at 16 weeks. Little piggy. :D I think usually they are pretty much done by 8 weeks, most babies are eating seed on their own by 6 weeks. They will still beg though, even after they are capable of feeding themselves.
