Posted October 17, 200519 yr i have noticed for the last couple of days my mummy bird has got a big behind and has been in and out of nesting box(6week old budgies are out)today i was watching her she gets in and seems to be panting she`ll get out and open her wings abit just like they do if hot(so is she just hot or is she in labor?)she is not feeding the babies any more(dad is)so what do you think i know it is to soon for her to be having more baby`s thanks shell
October 17, 200519 yr actully she is late in starting another clutch most budgies will start laying again when the babies are around the 5-6 week mark, som every earlier. does she seem in stress? Is this different then the last time she was laying? If yes then I would think a trip the vet may be in order.
October 17, 200519 yr nerwen i never knew she had egg last time i just looked in their one day their they were no dosent seem to be stessed so it could be possible for her to be laying again? i have felt her behind it`s very soft(like fuffy) thanks shell
October 17, 200519 yr Uuuhhmm Well i'm not sure about the softness, I can't remember feeling Frekles behind, since I didn't want to freak her out that being her first time and all.

How old is your hen? It happens in mostly older birds but have seen it in young ones too.. Take her of the nest and the lump will go away and watch her to see if she pases an egg.. She will slowly go back to normal... But don't breed her again..

October 17, 200519 yr Hi Shell, yes Lady is sugesting that you remove the breeding box. The hen has a problem and shouldn't be breed.

October 19, 200519 yr YAY! CONGRATULATIONS I would leave the babies in, mine are still out in the aviary, and new chicks have hatched this week.
October 19, 200519 yr thanks lin will leave in for now!do you recommend when or if i should take them out thanks shell
October 19, 200519 yr Are they out in the aviary, or in a breeding cage Shell? If in the aviary, is there any reason to seperate? If in a breeding cage, wait until Dad has finished weaning them.
October 19, 200519 yr Are they out in the aviary, or in a breeding cage Shell? If in the aviary, is there any reason to seperate? If in a breeding cage, wait until Dad has finished weaning them. lin i have them(2babies and mum and adopted dad in the one aviary)i think they are weaned i havent seen dad feed them for the last 2 days i could be wrong im not out to watch 24/7(i neally are) peaches seem to be feed him/her self but cream is still sooking when she see`s mum or dad but she is also eating too im only worried if leave them in may hurt babies when or if hatch! thanks shell
October 19, 200519 yr Only you will be able to tell how real a possibility that is. Mine are all in the aviary, and I've had no problems, but all birds are different! If your worried, take them out, sometimes your peace of mind is the most important thing. If they are weaned, they can be removed.
October 19, 200519 yr thanks lin i dont think they would be a thret at the moment but if i do i will take them out shell
October 20, 200519 yr I'd leave them in unless they keep trying to return to the nest box. If they do, your hen will drive them out and it can get ugly if the babies don't get the hint. Otherwise, they should be fine. Congrats on the new egg! After this second clutch has fledged I'd remove the nest box and give her a rest.
October 21, 200519 yr Geez, mummy's gonna be exhausted after all that! oh belive me she is so am i i want her to stop i keep worrying about her oh dose anyone how many she will have she had 4 last time will she have the same or more or less i want her to stop now! shell
October 21, 200519 yr i have a hen like yours she is sitting on 4 more eggs but the baby(is six weeks old now) is still in the box and she is fine with it at the moment but i am going to take her out tomorrow as she is eating by herself now and the eggs are going to hatch next week
October 22, 200519 yr my babies had no reason to stay in their box because mum wasnt feeding them dad was and he would feed them on top of the box looking forward so seening some picture of babies when they hatch they are so ugly but so cute shell
October 24, 200519 yr we have 3 eggs now she had 4 last time so i hopeing just one more and she`ll be finished! shell
