April 7, 200619 yr Author Great Job! looks amazing and now you have me wanting to go outside and convert the hubbys shed Just a thought though, how do you keep it cool inside on the hotter days? Im imagining a soaker hose might be becoming your best friend soon I am going to install a "Whirlybird" on the top. It removes heat from the aviary. Thank for that Budgie bird I thought I had read the whole thread. Poor Little Snowy. I was going to give snowy to a friend but when she said she had changed her mind I was elated. I was looking forward to keeping him. Oh My Gosh! I somehow missed this too.. Poor lil Snowy I hope he is safe so do I una. so do I. Nerwen the birds are free to go back to the flight after breeding and they can still stay in touch with the others. Crystal has had a complete change of personellity since being in the avairy. She calls and dances and turns herself inside out ont he perch... They really look happy now. Edited April 7, 200619 yr by daz
April 7, 200619 yr POOR SNOWY!!.... So shes gone?...Escaped! :glare: OMG...poor thing...she was my favourite!!! Maybe you should kake a safety door inside the shed....just a little one made out of 100% wire...maybe not even a frame..just enoguh to stop escaping birds! Kirby
April 8, 200619 yr Author I have brought the aviary into this century. It now has Solar lighting at night and normal power as a back up. The solar light has batteries that charge from the solar cell on the roof and then switches on after dark to get low level lighting. The normal power has an inlet plug to plug in a lead that is run back to the house. It also has a low wattage lanmp but also a power point that has a fluorescent fitting pluged in to forgood light at night if needed. All the nest boxes are installed and the pairing has been done. There is some chick photos on the picture section.
April 8, 200619 yr I am so sorry to read about Snowy Your avairy is really coming together, fit for a King and Queen
April 8, 200619 yr Author WOW That look extra super now I light is a great idea. Is it very strong? No it's not strong but it is enough to see by. If one of the hens is startled out of the nest box, she will have no problem getting back in. I tried it last night and I could see inside the aviary with all the lights off (except the solar one) Thanks Lovey. Yesterday Ash got out of the breeding cage while i was cleaning it. No problem he went a said hello to the others. After I finished cleaning I caught him and put him back.... I just wish I had finished this sooner. Snowy would still be here and safe. April 8, 200619 yr You have done a fantastic job there Daz, maybe you should give up your regular job & take on aviary/breeder cage making! I'd hire you! Sorry to hear about Snowy, hopefully someone nice has found her.
April 8, 200619 yr Daz..if i were you..i would DEFIANTELY MAKE A SAFTEY DOOR! Thats two already!..and it has not even been set up a week! Even a cloth or shower curtain...or something! To block the HUGE front door! Other than that, all is swell!...congrats Daz!...im jelious..again Kirby

To block the HUGE front door! Other than that, all is swell!...congrats Daz!...im jelious..again :bluebudgie: Kirby Kirby it has a safety door. The main door can be shut and secured from the inside. I do this when I am in there cleaning or feed or just checking the birds. If one gets out (Ash did the other day) they can fly around on the inside until I decide to put them back in. :fear The Cats can't bother them in there and with the new light (Worked gret last night) they feel happier (i hope). NEW PROJECT - I have looked through the internet for local electronic stores and have found on not far a way that I can get what I need for a solor exhaust fan. During the day the solar cell (new one) will supply power to a sensing circuit. When the temperatur goes past a set level, say 34 deg, it will turn on a small computer fan to extract the heat from the aviary. What do you think? Edited April 8, 200619 yr by daz
April 9, 200619 yr Daz, what I think is: I think you need to come back to my place and fix up my aviaries with your great ideas!

April 16, 200619 yr yes Daz...i mean another door to block it incase when you open the door to walk in, one has escaped, and flies off like poor Chime did Im talking about like a clotch even, or a mesh screen....so you can see throuigh it when you open the door from outside.... I just dont want you to have to go through another loss! Has anyone found poor Snowy yet?...or would you know? Kirby

I just dont want you to have to go through another loss! Has anyone found poor Snowy yet?...or would you know? Kirby Kirby, your last post gave me food for thought. Every time I needed to work with the birds I had to shut the door and secure it from the inside to stop anyone opening it. It was a hassel. So I have designed a steel mesh door that is going to be fixed on the inside of the entrance. It will swing in and be on a spring to hold it closed. It will be able to be latched from the inside to stop anyone coming in at the worst time. That way if I forget to close something. (only human) there won't be a big panick. Thanks for your idea
April 16, 200619 yr (Laughing out loud) no problem Daz What if- you made it do you can lock it from the outside aswell! So then when you come home from work, and go to aviary, you open up the outer door, and then the other one (new screen one) is closed shut. This way, you can inspect the inside, and once you feel its safe, unlock it, or unhook it, or simply open it, step inside, then shut/lock both doors behind you! That way, it can also act as a screen door in nice weather, so you can open up the outer door, but keep the mesh one locked, yet still have the protection of no more escaping birds!!! Kirby
