Posted October 12, 200519 yr when my birds breed i give them normal seed Large parrot mix ( my step dads bird just died so he gave it to me) fresh fruit and veg clean water egg food cuttle fish bone they also like sunflower seeds can they have that when breeding or not. Sarah
October 12, 200519 yr Sounds pretty good. Don't forget a millet spray a couple of times a week, no more than that. I believe that sunflower seeds are high fat, so limit those to a couple of times a week too. Yes, they can have a couple of sunflower seeds when their not breeding too, but watch the fat content.
October 12, 200519 yr yep as lin said, also it help with the conditioning of the bird to give them the fresh fruit, veg and egg food before they are laying and feeding young.
October 12, 200519 yr What types of fruits and veggies are you feeding? And, do they get any type of legumes (beans, lentils, etc.)?

October 13, 200519 yr Oh dear, it's actually a hard one to explain. It is seed still on the stalk, and it's like lollies to birds, they adore it. I'll try to find a link, back in a minute Shell Okay, I found this millet You can buy it at most pet stores, stock feeds etc Edited October 13, 200519 yr by Lin
October 13, 200519 yr ive never heared of it thanks lin i think i mite go and get some would it be okay to give to babies too?and how oftern do you give it to your birds? thanks shell
October 13, 200519 yr it's good to offer to birds to learn to eat seeds, it seems to be easier for them to shell. As lin saidonly a couple a days a week max since it is fattering.
October 13, 200519 yr okay so if i put one stem in for 3 and babies for a day should i take it out for a day?or is it okay just to leave it in their untill gone? thanks shell
October 13, 200519 yr Just leave it till all the seeds on it are gone. Once they get used to it you'll find it won't take long for that to happen.
October 13, 200519 yr i'll probably get some millet tommorow i at the moment have a very active four week old baby budgie in my lap i brought the parents in as there might be a storm and did not want them to be out side as the baby gets cold real easy as it is the only babyso i have put a hot water bottle on wood top on the nest box for half an hour so it gets some heat in there than i will take it off so it does not get to hot Sarah
October 13, 200519 yr It took my Winkie a few weeks to taste it, because of course we know that anything that I put in has to be deadly poisonous However, he now loves it!
