Posted October 11, 200519 yr okay I have a different idea and I hope it works If it doesn't then I will have to try something else. Everyone now, find me a picture and tell me what an Opaline is. *warning*- newbies only those that know give others a chance to guess. If your know you can help me on this side Edited October 11, 200519 yr by Nerwen
October 11, 200519 yr Author okay BIG hint to all, but a picture of the back would help (oh and she looks like a grey green to me)
October 11, 200519 yr But I don't understand what one is. Something about a V on the back? Is that second picture too big? Can you change it if it is please?
October 11, 200519 yr Great pics Lin they are gorgeous, and they are both Opalines.. Opaline is the lack of markings on the back, neck, and head. The Opalines mask and cap colour should extend over the back and merge into the body colour at a point level with the wing butts. The markings should stop at this point, leaving a clear V-effect between the tops of the wings and the centre of the back. To daz I agree with nerwen, she is a looker and a grey green..
October 11, 200519 yr Ah thankyou Lady, that makes perfect sense! I will check tomorrow to see if I have any opalines! (Laughing out loud). I actually feel this desperate urge to go to a pet store and start identifying!
October 12, 200519 yr I can! I can! But the head colour isn't on it's wings like you said in the other post I am so confused!
October 12, 200519 yr No, the head color is replaced by the body color. If she weren't opaline, not only would she have the bars across the back, but the shell markings would be edged in yellow, not the body color.
October 12, 200519 yr Shell markings? And is the head colour the blue? Am I confusing the yellow face colour?
October 12, 200519 yr The shell markings are the grey splotches on the wings. They are normally edged in the head/face color (in the case of my bird, yellow). Instead they are edged in the blue of her body.
October 12, 200519 yr Thanks Rainbow. I find all this totally fascinating, and yet sooooo confusing! One day I hope to understand
October 12, 200519 yr Author <---This is an opaline. I hope we will get into other mutations. We will but we are working on opalines now, this is for people that want to know how to spot a certain mutation.
