Posted October 7, 200519 yr We have two birds. Younger (Pahulja) has around a year, while the other (Jeli) is older, but we do not know exactly how older, because one day she just flew in and took the position of the boss in the house . We bought Pahulja six months ago. Two months ago we saved one badgie which was lost in the streets and unfortunately we did not quarantined her. After ten days she died. Since she has been in a bad state from the beggining, the only strange symptom we noticed was a lump of poo on the anus. We thought it was probably from the eating 'cos she was starving in the street so she ate a lot. After a week the bird died, but Jeli got the same symptom with the lump of poo but we treated her with an antibiotic called Relardon suspension and with cleaning the poo. Soon after this she stoped flying, she constantly sleeps, doesn't sing any more, breathes strangly and on the beak, (in the nostrils) has strange black and grey clusters (which started to come out after we applied the plant oil from olive oils and thymes (klamath weed). And when she tries she can't fly, falls as a bomber plane. We visited all vets in town but nobody knows nothing about birds. Unfortunately after a long search we found out that there are no avian vets in our town or near. Pahulja is completely healthy. Also we treated the cage and them with all means against parasites, but it has not helped. Strangely, Jeli eats a lot more than usual. If you have any advice please help. Me again, i'm so sorry i had a mixup with the browser so i posted in the wrong part of the forum. I hope the moderators or the admin will transfer it to the health forum. I apologize again. Thank you.
October 7, 200519 yr I wish I knew what might help but I don't. Most budgie diseases have the same symptoms so tests have to be run to determine the cause. You don't have a vet there so obviously that's no possible. We can't diagnose the problem but I can tell you how to make her more comfortable at least. Keep her in a warm room separate from your other budgie. Try and keep things calm and quiet for her so that she isn't stressed. What did you use to treat her for parasites? Many things contain harmful chemicals so you have to be very careful about what you use. Is there any way you can get a picture of the black and grey clusters?
October 8, 200519 yr Terri, is there any where that Jeli can send off a poo sample to a lab for analysis? Just a thought
October 8, 200519 yr I know of one place (avian biotech) but I'm not sure if they do it internationally. I'll definitely have a look. Now that I think about it, that probably wouldn't be possible due to quarantine-related customs laws and such. :/ *Edit* okay, here's what it says: ABI US Will not accept samples from other countries without proper permits!! Please, please send all non US samples to our UK office for processing. This will prevent unintentional errors in paperwork from turning into large fines for us. You may contact USF&W for further information at 1-800-344-WILD or ABI at 850-386-1145. Here's the link to the site: http://www.avianbiotech.com/Pricing.htm Edited October 8, 200519 yr by eterri
October 8, 200519 yr HI About a photo we'll try to put it there soon, we do not have any recent photos. About the poo problem, we solved it with the antibiotic. But the problem remains with the mites, at least we think it's mites. Also, she eats really a lot, and every article we read about deseases, talks about reduced apetite. The real problem is that she is weak, doesn't try to fly any more, and is not "singing" any more. Yesterday, she made a sound, but it was weak and fuzzy like a human with a flue. There is no way we can send a poo sample to analysis, but if you could advise us how to tret mites on her nostrils we would be gratefull. Also she is like this 2 moths now.
