Posted October 4, 200519 yr l have 3 babies appox 3-4 weeks old. How old are they when they leave the nest. l would like to tame these new babies, but l am not sure how old they should be. Any hints on feeding or taming my babies once l remove them from the nest would be appreciated. My other hens 7 eggs l'm sure are sterile, they have not hatched for 3-4 months and the breeding pair are 4 years old and have never breed. Do l remove her eggs from the box. She has produced eggs before, only one egg hatched, which baby died. How do l stop these two birds from breeding or producing sterile eggs. Cheers
October 4, 200519 yr Babies tend to start coming out of their nest at around 5 weeks old but you should put them back into the nest until they are about 6 weeks. You can take them inside when they can feed themselves at around 6+ weeks. Remove the sterile eggs & if you don't want them to breed, remove the nest box or put them into a different cage.
October 4, 200519 yr The Parents will teach the chick to crack open the husks so they can start to feed themselves. When the parents think the chicks are old enough, they will tell them to go. Usually so that they can start another clutch..
October 4, 200519 yr as the others said but you you want them tame start handling htem now, whil ein the box just hold them for 5 or so minutes a day so they are use to hands.
