Blood Round Cere ?

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi , yesterday i noticed polly had red staining on the feathers just above her cere and to the side of her eye .

This morning there is more  its on the other side aswell and it looks like it actually coming from inside her nostril , it's above it aswell , it goes down the side of the cere and and next to the eye again .

Could this be from fighting ??

I've checked all the perches for sharp bits there are none and she hasn't got any visable wounds on her .

She's rubbing her beak more in the perches and sneezing loads :)

If it is caused by them fighting then should i separate her from the others as she lives with two other males and one female .

Please help , really worried about my little girl :)

It does sound like she could have been attacked, and I would deffinately remove her from the other birds at the moment. The little girl needs to see a vet asap, if its the result of an attack, infection could set in, and if its an infection NOT through an attack, then it needs treating quickly anyway. The rubbing and sneezing tells me that she is in quite a bit of distress, she's deffinately not comfortable. The ONLY good advice I can give you over this is get her to the vet, as fast as you can.

Please keep us updated, and good luck.

Anne

I would say the bird may have just hit a blood vessle that may have cuased the blood nose have a carefully look around the cage / avairy and goo trught it with a fine tooth comb . If no other birds have any blood then I would not think it is a attack but keep it away from the other birds for at least a week if poss . Also seek a AVAIN vet advice

thanks , i'll try get a picture of her later (camera charging ) it doesn't look as bad as it did now .

She's been asleep for most of today and slighty puffed up , but she woke up just now and is singing and grinding her beak, her droppings are very watery though .

I just noticed she's got the staining on one of her toe nails from where she's been scratching it

She needs to see a vet Cathy.

You could have an extremely sick little bird there, watery poops, sleepiness and fluffing are not brilliant signs.

 what can i do for her at the moment , is there anything i can give her ?? my parents are out and the vets are closed .

What do you think is wrong with her .?

So i should separate her from the others? , even if i don't know whether it's from them fighting ? (i havn't seen them fighting )

My poor little girlie :o

yes, separate her, keep her warm, maybe cover three sides of the cage too.

It sounds like scaley beak mite, our budgies had the same thing and at first we thought they'd cut themselves on something so removed anything sharp but it didn't work so we took them to the vet and they treated it with some drops or something and they were all better, so, if I were you, just hold tight and take her to the vet as soon as possible and soon she'll be back as good as new!

okay i've got her separated from the others in budgie cage , i put some honey in her water (someone else said to do that ) she's currently hoping around ....but she looks like she wants to get back to the others .How long should i keep her in there for ??

i posted on a different forum about the same thing and this is the reply i got -

"One of my budgies had a similar problem,it was a sinus irritant causing him to sneeze with a discharge and he was constantly rubbing his beak and cere because of the discomfort.

He caused bleeding because of the constant rubbing, fortunately he overcame his sinus problem, was very young and just grew stronger "

could it be this ??

thanks ,so did i need to separate her ? have you got a picture of when they had it ? what syptoms did they have ?

Keep her seperate until after she's completely better. I once had a bird with a similar problem a bit like this and it was a sinus infection.
