Lutinos

I think I might have just worked out the first clue to the puzzle of birdie genetics. Are lutinos birds with just one colour? Please tell me it is this simple! :budgiedance:

im probably the worst person to answet this genetics question.. But my Lutino has white leggies and white cheek patches and the odd white feather on her tummy and ofcoarse the white bum :budgiedance: does that all count as 2 colours?

Lutino's are pure yellow. Lutino's have white cheek patches & what look like white tail feathers & flights but in reality they are just really pale yellow. Sometimes if you're lucky you can breed/buy lutino's with rather dark yellow tail & flight feathers. I have 3 adults with dark yellow tail & light feathers. Dumbass who died recently was a very large hen with bright yellow tail & flight feathers.

Ohh, darn! I've been studying pictures of lutinos, and I thought I had it nailed! I should have known budgies would never be that simple! Okay, I give up - what's a lutino - in little words please? :budgiedance:

a yellow budgie with red eyes :budgiedance:

Do they have to have red eyes? Can you get pure yellow budgies without red eyes?

I think I might have 2 lutinos in my nest box, though I haven't looked at their eyes, and one isn't fully feathered yet, but I will check later today, when the temperature is a bit warmer *shivers, teeth rattle*

as far as i know you can get some withought the red eyes . they would just be yellow budgies but thats all i know (Laughing out loud)

If they're marked like a lutino (pure yellow, white cheek patches and white flights) but have dark eyes, they're known as dark eyed clears. This is the same with albinos. If it is pure white but dark eyes instead of red, it's a dark eyed clear. :budgiedance:

DSCN2464002.jpg, Lin Nerwen told me these were going to turn out to be lutinos when i said about their red eyes they have grown from the first picture, into the second they are beautiful

Lin it's just better if you show us pictures

Yes you can get yellow birds with out red eyes in two different ways.

one- as eterri said dark eyed clears- which is two different pid gene joining up.

two- Black eyed clears- which are double factor spangles.

I checked the box again, and one of them, sneaky little devil, has a very pale colour on it's tum, not yellow.

The other one looks like (listen to how knowledgable I sound here) a dark eyed clear. :hap:

Of course, now that I've had camera lessons from my own personal adviser, Rainbow, now the camera has decided to pack it in! (Laughing out loud). However, last night I got given a mobile with a camera, all I have to do is buy a battery for it! (Laughing out loud). And keep swearing at my camera, I'm sure that will eventually work! (Laughing out loud)

(Laughing out loud) Yay Lin. Sound very smart indeed :hap:

*wags finger at camera* Start working I want to see pics.

Oh yes do get the camera to work, Pleeeeeeease I want to see pics too..

And keep swearing at my camera, I'm sure that will eventually work! lol

**swears at Lin's camera**

Two is better than one, right??? Did it work or must we try it some more, LOL!

Just to confuse things you can also get yellowfaced albinos with red eyes they look just like lutinos.

GILL.

I'm taking the stupid thing in to the man in the electrical goods shop today - the one who always takes all of my money (Laughing out loud). Their so good there. It's a simple problem, the battery compartment will not close when the batteries are in (despite threats of the wooden spoon!). But on a good note, the mobile with the camera that I got given - my friend came back yesterday because he had found the battery! Yay! Now I just work out how to email myself the photos, because I actually take better pictures with it! than with my camera!

Of course my oldest has flattened the battery taking pictures - of things like - the pantry, the carpet, the tv, his finger - boys - do they ever grow up?
