Posted September 29, 200519 yr I know that Adam is using The Budgerigar Program but what Programs are you using. I started using Aviary Manager - and found it to be a good basic program. For a small outfit it works good. You can download an evaluation copy for 30 days to see if you like it. I did and then registed it. Then I found Bird Tracker I like it so much that I have bought a copy. It should be arriving in the next 3 to 6 weeks from the USA.. Strange it should be quicker as it's all down hill from there . You can down load a 60 day evaluation copy. Thats what I have running know. Bird Tracker can help with who's who as in parents grand parents and so forth. But any way, back the question. How do you track your birds?
September 29, 200519 yr I have most of my birds parentage locked up in my brain. Of every budgie I've bred I know who the parents are. I once tried writing down the details but since I'm not a fan of leg rings on budgies I either use split ones or none at all & when you don't have a ring on them it's hard to write down so I just remember. My Bourkes are a different matter. I've only had 2 successful nests so far but what I've done is every pair I've put split rings on 1 foot and on the other I put a coloured plastic ring, a different colour for every pair and on the ofspring I put the corresponding colour on the same leg so I know who the parents are. When it comes time for the babies to breed I will use a different colour split ring.
September 29, 200519 yr **cough cough** Um...notebook paper and a calendar??? I started with the calendar, noting when the eggs were laid and when they hatched, but I graduated to notebook paper and started taking notes when they began to feather and such. I jotted down things like the colors as they came out, when they left the nest box, weight, how long they stayed out the first time, when they went back in, when the parents began to mate again, vet visits, little things about their personalities, stuff like that. Not too professional I know, but there aren't too many to remember. If I ever am in a position to breed my birds again, I will look into an additional method. Both of those programs look good daz.
