Excellent News About Bobette

Well Bobette had decided upun another nest.

But she has chosen one of the designated nest to put the eggs, and Bobby can have access to the nest now.

She laid several eggs in the last couple of days, but they broke - she laies them at the top and bottom of cages.

Now she has retreated to the nest and there is en egg there, all round and beautiful. Bobby stays with her - Toto is not involved with him anymore.

But is it normal that she lays eggs like this all the time, even though she lost the other baby a month ago?

Maybe she really wants a family?

Seems like it to me. :(Laughing out loud):

Doesn't seem strange at all to me. I mean, she has the opportunity to mate, with a nestbox and all, so why not?

She certainly seems to have an overwhelming desire to breed doesn't she? The problem with birds in houses is that the cycle of nature doesn't give them a break. After this clutch, reduce the amount of light she gets, cover her earlier. Also, can you turn the heating down a tad, so she thinks it's winter? That will give her a break from breeding. It's more the looking after babies that takes it out of her, so she will really need a good long break after this. Glad to hear she didn't go back in the ceiling! Easier for you and her! Keep us updated

a happy little family :) i wanna see pictures when the egg(s) hatches ;)

i will i will for sure!!!

By The Way - winter IS coming our way....

I have the habit of keeping my bords extra warm, and to keep the light on until 10h...

Should I turn the light off sooner and mimics season changes with them (please please no cold for me... :P _

Yes, I would. I think, and i'm sure someone else will know, that it is more the hours of light they get that triggers breeding than the temperature. So, if you can mimic the winter season, it should stop the desire to breed. Good luck!

I agree with Lin. She needs a break. It's only recommended that they only have 2 clutches a year because of all the stress it puts on them. You need to give a 5-6 month rest inbetween clutches.

Let her have this clutch and then turn the lights off earlier.. Good luck with the eggs..

Yes i agree - she's going opn a bit too much - not that i don't licke the babies - i am welcoming to any birds...

But i want ther to be a healthy little thing... She need to feed well and to play, and to rest. I bought all kinds of new toy, she has seen or touched one!!!!

She's got 3 eggs now... One this clutch is raised (Bobby is helping and in the nest with her this time), it's break time!!!!

I't put the lights on a timer... It's be better for everyone (finches, tiels and budgies alike)

I just thought of something.

What will it do if i give her false eggs. I never used them. Will she become normal again if i give her false eggs? At least she will stop mating and producing eggs...

What's the most tirying for a hen? Laying the eggs, nesting, raising the chick? If there is no chicks, she can rest, neh?

Definately raising the chicks takes the most physically out of her, but laying eggs takes valuable nutrients from her body. With the false eggs, it should stop her laying eggs. When the babies fledge, take the box away, and give her a good break (don't forget the lights though!)

Even if i take the nest, she keep laying eggs all over the place!!!!

she lays them in the food bowl, in the water dishes, on top of the cage, bottom of the cage.

I find broken eggs everywhere when i don't give her a good nest

That's why i gave her the nest in the beggining : as least she got privacy in the nest!!!

if i take the nest away, i am not sure the laying of the eggs will stop, from what i have seen...

Reducing light should work, especially if you put fake eggs in the nest. Once she has enough eggs she will stop laying. Anyone out there heard of this before? Could it be some kind of medical thing - I don't know - excess of hormones or something?

i've already talked to my bf about putting the lights in my room on a timer - which will mimic the seasons

too bad i cannot get a real sun - 5% decrease per 5 minutes or something like that
