tiny, tiny, little egg

today my 4 year old hen laid a tiny, tiny egg bout half the size of a normal size egg. I might expect a tiny egg if it was the first in the clutch, but it wasn't!

This was her 2nd clutch and she's already laid 4 eggsin this clutch!

Is this normal???

Does this mean she's not going to lay anymore eggs ever again?

No, don't worry this is normal!

Usually the last eggs she lays like the 4th or 5th r tinier than the rest!

sorry i have to disagree with this 99.9% of the eggs my birds lay are around the same size this year i have had one egg the same as you and it does not affect any more eggs she lays in this clutch or future clutchs

yeh thanks alot for the advice (i was a bit worryed that she wasn't gonna lay anymore) :(Laughing out loud):

but why would it be that sometimes there is a really tiny egg?

i dont know that but last year i had a hen that layed two eggs double the size of normal eggs to this day i do not know how she passed them

ouch thats gotta hurt

dianne's first egg was really small too but her second one was normal, i'm expecting a third sometime today

yeh i think sometimes the first egg might sometimes be a little smaller than the rest but this one was sooooo TINY!!

i think that it would probably be infertile, wat do you guyz reckon?

hath, did u get extra big budgies from those eggs!!!? ONe of my hens was laying very big eggs too, but not double the size and i got extra big budgies. When they were chicks they were the size of some of my adults!!

the large eggs were fertile but did not hatch

oh thats a shame!! why do you think they didnt hatch??

something to do with the size of the eggs as all the rest of the clutch hatched and lived

that is very interesting, maybe this is why we dont see a lot of abnormalities in budgies because eggs with deformations will terminate themselves? interesting theory..

yeh it is really interesting i'd like to find out more about this.

hath, u said the eggs where fertile but did not hatch. So where they dead in shell?

since they were alot bigger than the other eggs, it would've taken longer for the embryo's to mature therefore it would take several more days for the egg to hatch. I hope what i'm sayin is right

Did u discard them after 21 days or did you leave them in longer?

they were not dead in the shell as they did not get that far i candled them after about 8 days and all the eggs were fertile but the big ones did not go any further ie no chick developed

That is spooky............. :wacko::(:)

She has seven now!!!!!!!

hath was right, she's still layin thoses eggies.

The day she layed that egg must of just been her lazy day! oh well, still plenty of other eggs in the nest box.

My dad said it still could be fertile though (as if)

or maybe a really, really REALLY tiny (but still cute) little widdle budgie wudgie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(:)

(i wish) i want to set a new record for smallest budgie in the world or somthing

heehehhehee

a little bitty budgie would be so cute! that would be cool if it hatched but i doubt it, i hope the rest of your clutch is fertile, as of now i'm staring at the face of a clear clutch [fails miserably] i hope your works out better though!

oh NO!!!!!!! poor U!

I'd be so disspaointed if that happened to me!!! but at least 4 of mine are fertile so far.

i checked the egg yesterday and it was infertile?!?!?!? :) ohhhhhhh!

well anyways i still got 5 fertile eggs in that lot

but the first egg was infertile and so was this tiny one which was the fourth.

The first fertile egg should hatch tomorrow :)

yay how exciting!!!!!! try to post some pictures!

mine hatched today!! theys so tiny and the sweetest thing ever!!! (yes even cuter then the kittens i breed!!) my mum thinks im mental!!! she says its a little pink worm but shes doesnt no anything so i dont care what she says!! did yours hatch budgie chick??

yes i would like to post some picture of my tiny egg with some normal sized eggs so you guys can see just how tiny it is :(Laughing out loud):

You breed kittens!!!!!?? wow alot of who have birds tend to hate cats but my cats seem to get along with the budgies. Although i have seen my fat persian cat "sabre" eyeing that big juicy lutino budgie in the aviary!

Well anyway so far two of the five fertile eggs have hatched! :)

and i hope they will hatch cos the precious bunch of chicks were just great! my first batch of spangles!!!! cinnamon spangles too!!!!

wow does that mean ours have the same birthday!!!( yeh i do breed cats but sprayin them with a mister stops them bein so interested in the budgies!! oh yeh i have 17 cats by the way)

Hi everyone. My budgie hen layed her first egg today. The egg is very small in size. Do i need to worry about its infertility.

How much is the chance of its hatching
