September 17, 200519 yr Oh the poor little mite? How did that happen? Sorry, can't help you with your problem, I'm sure that someone else will though. what treatment did the vet give it?
September 17, 200519 yr I can't say I've come across this before. If you could immobilise the bird's wings (yeah right!) the bones might mend but I couldn't really see the bird being happy with that. Hopefully someone who has come across this will let you know what to except. I hope they can give you some good news.
September 17, 200519 yr The poor thing, what did the vet tell you to do? I think it's in real trouble right now. My fingers are crossed and I'm sending good vibes for you.

September 17, 200519 yr That just shows the importance of new birds being checked by the vet. To educate us on the board, did you notice anything wrong with the bird? With the benefit of hindsight perhaps?
September 17, 200519 yr Yes I did One day she was walking climbing and active. the enxt day she was loseing balence and went donw hill quickly so went and saw my vet asked for a crop wash and to check the wings and i noticed feather lost but vet would not do any so traveled 1 hour away to get to a good vet and they did a x ray and crop wash and i got what i wanted and found out whre was something wrong with her .
September 17, 200519 yr So it sounds like she fell, or flew into the bars, after she came to your house. All I can say is, it sounds like the best chance she has got is with you. You've already shown your dedication and concern to her, if she doesn't pull through for you, then you'll know there was absolutely no chance for her. Please keep us updated on her progress.
September 17, 200519 yr Bravo for your intelligence & compassion for your new baby echucabirds, well done Oh & Lin (always wanted to do that) : Edited September 17, 200519 yr by karenfernvale
September 17, 200519 yr Are this birds wings clipped? Quite often over-clipped wings result in broken keel bones, as the bird lands too heavilly on its chest when it descends from flight, or tries to fly from a highish place. If not, could anyone have grabbed the bird too tightly as this also can result in a broken keel bone/wing/ribs. For the time being, I would definately pad the cage floor well, so if the bird falls again at least it has a cushioned, soft area to land on. I hope the little thing will be okay, keep an eye on its breathing as difficulties in breathing can arise from such injuries. Good luck to you and your little bird.
