hi haven't been on this for a while, I stoped breeding end of last year with lots of breeding problemes with the birds. and have got new stock. I have paired and breeding 4 different pairs seprately three have clutches already but the first hen to lay has a mild case of scaly face. i know it is contagouis but the cock shows no singe of scaly face and i have been treating the hen. her eggs are due to hatch, well the 1st egg was laid 20 days ago and still hasn't hatched. I know the eggs a fertile but need to know if treating the hen for scaly face will harm or interfere with the chicks. :

I wouldn't treat her when she feeds the babies as budgies usually manage to swallow some of the treatment & could pass it on to the babies when she feeds them (when they hatch) and it could kill them. I'd recommend discontinue treatment until the babies have fledged & then separate the hen & cock so she can be treated without interference from the cock.

You can treat with Ivermectin with no problems. 1 drop on back of neck (on skin) every week for 3 weeks.

sounds good, I've never had a problem like that, But I would keep the family alone from the others and check them all over and treat.

catch her now and put vasaline on the affected areas, this will kill it and she will be fine.

 

the egg may have been laid 20 days ago but she may have started sitting about 3 or 4 days in so maybe hatch in 2 days..

Hi luvbudgies hows it going, has the eggs hatched. Have you had any luck with the hen?

some sad news all the remainging eggs hatched and all chicks died. I found out that they were not being fed. But on the bright side, Friday a chick from the other nest hatched, Saturday another, sunday a nother and I also got my puppy she is also beautiful. And looks like her mother. The baby budgies are growing so fast and I have taken some photo's of them and I will try to post some soon.
