eggs turning grey?

I was hoping someone could help me? :)

bobo has laid a total of 6 eggs. It is day 20 for the first egg and still no hatch. I am trying to stay hopeful.

Anyway my question is this. 2 of the eggs are turning grey almost marlbe like. Is this normal? Does this mean we are close to hatching or maybe that the chick has died.

I am a very nervous grandma right now so any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

some hens dont start incubating untill the second egg is laid also i find if any arnt going to hatch it is normally the first one that fails it would have been best to candle them at about 4 to 6 days old to see the veins but my eggs do go darker as they get older

thanks

I did candle all the eggs at about 4-5 days after they were layed. 5 were definately fertile. I am just a little nervous because 2 of them are turning greyish kinda marlbe like.

i cant say exactly if mine go marble like as once i have candled them i dont check that closley i check the nest twice a day but that is to check on the hen

I wouldn't worry too much. Like hath said, some hens don't start to incubate until the second egg is laid. My bird has only had two clutches, but both times the new babies began to hatch at the 20th day. I think it's normal if they don't all hatch.

My hen had an egg from each clutch that turned grey. Neither one hatched, but they didn't start to turn grey until after all the eggs that were going to hatch, hatched. I think they were fertile, but maybe got cold or didn't get turned evenly and that's why they never hatched. Are they grey all over, or just on one end?

they are grey all over.

I had read that dead in shell eggs turend grey and that they could harm the other eggs due to bacteria. I think I am more worried about that than anything.

But on the other hand it's only day 20 and there is still hope.

Thanks for the help everyone

I didn't know about the bacteria part. I left the unhatched eggs in the box for several days after the last baby hatched (5 or 6). Then I took them out on different days so my hen wouldn't get upset at them both being gone at once, because she still sat on them. If they get very dark, I would take them out, just in case.

Have any hatched yet?
