Posted September 7, 200519 yr i was checking the nest. Everything seemed fine... Today, i knew something was wrong : bobette flying around the room, and panicking i checked : the babies was dead. From the looks of it it got sour crop. I feel so bad for her... I showed her the baby and explained to het the the little one was gone : it must not have been long ago: the body was still how and not rigid... I removed the nest and the remaining eggs... Bobette is calmer now... Bobby has returned to her, and is not bothering Toto anymore... I feel sad... the baby would have been 2 weeks tomorrow...
September 7, 200519 yr Oh, that is awful! I know I was really proud of Bobette - I loved the inventiveness of her nesting, so I can imagine how heart broken you are. My thoughts are with you

My thoughts are with you <{POST_SNAPBACK}> thank you bobette went back to the nest, and she is deparately looking for the baby and the eggs... Will she go in depression? What should i do? I can't leave the baby and unhatched eggs there... Or should i?
September 7, 200519 yr Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that. I really thought everything would pull through in the end.
September 7, 200519 yr I don't know what the correct advice is. I would give her some time to grieve, a few hours, then remove the babies and eggs, and block the hole off. You could even bring the babies and eggs down, and leave them for her to grieve over for a little while. That might make her less desperate to go back into the ceiling. Good luck, do whatever feels right for her
September 7, 200519 yr it seemed like a good idea to give her time to grieve... i put the baby and the eggs in a plate, and i put it on her fav spot, on the finches aviary. She is ignoring them, she went to eat and drink, the is going grooming, but she doen't get close to the baby and the eggs... She is even singing (well going twit, like females do you know) but she does it coz she's in a good mood neh?
September 7, 200519 yr Yep, maybe she just wanted them dealt with. Animals forget really quickly, that's natures way. It will take you a lot longer to get over than her. It's good to hear that she is happy. Block off the hole, then you can probably remove the babies
September 8, 200519 yr I was really hoping things would work out perfectly for her, she was doing such a good job.
September 8, 200519 yr Poor Bobette! I was really hoping the babies would survive as I love it when budgies breed in interesting places.
September 10, 200519 yr hello everyone I want to thank everyone that had a positive thought for us during that difficult experience... My Bf and i are already discussing proper modifications to the nest to make to more acceptable to her likings... Bobette is flying around, she eats, she drinks, she sings, she plays with Bobby... Everything is back to normal... She need companionship, and bobby needs several females... I will provede her with one, maybe 2 littles budgies, or even better, try to rescue older budgies from people who don't want them anyomore as flock for my little ones... Bobby sends most of his time with Bobette, but still cares deeply about Toto... Incidently, Toto is showing more and more agressive (i mean protective) behavior towards her private box (she loves a good little cardboard box - lots of shewing pleasure - It is her private dormitory - And the only one to have visiting rights to this box is... Well yes - Bobby... Better check if there are eggs in there... Maybe that's how the Bourkes (english budgies) got breed in the first place?? Anyone knowleageble about the bourkes' origin? Anyway , thank you all, and lets keep posted til the next bredding adventure!!! Nathalie
September 10, 200519 yr I would like to But i don't know where everyone is... I've going around and around for 10 minutes :dbb1:
September 10, 200519 yr I'm sorry to hear about this sad news :dbb1: as to your comment about the Bourkes they are not the english type budgies they are a different breed of bird alltogether. Right now my brian is hiding the fact of where they come from. rescuing older budgies sounds like a great plan.

Here in quebec, they are considered the same : english and bourke's : there is a difference?
September 10, 200519 yr Budgie: melopsittacus undulatus Bourke's: neophema bourkii They are different species, but I have also seen Bourke's labeled as English budgies.

But i've seen Huge budgies, like the side of my cockatiel, but with the same robe than the aussi small budgie... Are they the english budgie???
September 10, 200519 yr Yes, English, or show budgies are the same species as the little ones, just like a great dane and a chihahua are the same species of dog (canis domesticus?). I think you'll find this topic helpful: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....sh+Show+budgies
