Well the baby didnt last long - mum kicked it out, I found it at the bottom of the cage and put it back in the nest, just checked at it was out and cold but still alive. Ive put it in with the peachfaces as shes got newborns but I dont hold out much hope.

Wonder why she did it.....and will she do it to the others?

how old is the mother? - she may be too young to bring up babies

Could the baby have fallen out by acciedent?

 

i have never bred budgies so i really have no idea - someone will be a long to hepl more im sure

When I checked on the baby it had died but closer inspection it looked adnormal, so I guess natures way took place. This mum has raised 2 babies before and is happy sitting on the other eggs. I will keep a eye on things and Im ready if I need to take over the feeding duties. Although my peachface takes babies like they are her own.

i do know how you feel i lost 02 chicks to the same hen last week, but she takes really good care of her other (older two) chicks.

What kind of abnormalities do you see?

Well we had baby number 2 arrive but I checked and it was dead on the bottom of the nesting box - looks like mum or dad has put their foot on it and squashed it.

Number 3 egg is about to hatch so Ive moved number 3 and 4 to the peach face mum whos nesting at the moment, so far she hasnt rejected the eggs and is happy sitting on them as well as feeding her babies.

 

Ive left egg 5 in the box for bessie and bill and hope they will be able to look after that one.

Just checked the peachfaces and one of the budgie eggs is starting to hatch, so fingers, legs, and eyes are all crossed that things will be okay.

 

Bessie and Bill havent sat on the other egg and its cold but Im going to leave it there for a while just to see what they do.

yes but only once. So far so good shes still sitting on the eggs, although one has a small hole in it but the baby is moving . We can only try.

What a bummer, I hope the peach's do well again! Someone posted here before about the baby looking to be squashed, I had never heard of this before, I dont remember if it was every replied to about what they ment by squished. I guess its more common than thought, how sad :glare:

egg 3 didnt hatch and it looks like the baby didnt develope properly in the egg. Egg number 4 is in with the peachies and due to hatch tomorrow but I dont hold out much hope.

bessie and bill are lovely dovey in their cage but ive taken the nest box away for a few weeks. I dont want bessie to get too tired.
