help with chick again please

please help, i went into my my birds yesterday, and the chick born that day looked to have a kind of air sac from the crop upwards, it had a bit of food in the bottom, so i thought it was just cos it wasnt 'full up' but today theres much more food in it, and its moving about quite well, but this 'bubble' is sort of on the shoulder and behind its back of its neck, is this normal, i know i have read something once on here, but didnt know what i should do with it if anything, any advise will be greatly aprreciated please

 It does sound like its crop, being on the shoulder and back. When I had my first clutch, I freaked out, since it was on the shoulder & back. It should be kind of transparent and lots of creamy stuff inside. It reminds me of chicken fat! that globby stuff just under the skin! I know I have baby pics on my link below, I am not sure if there are any of their crops.

but anyway, yes it sounds very normal!

thank you for your reply Buuzbee, sorry to be a worrier, but it looks so much more 'air filled' than all the other chicks crops is this normal? it looks like if you **** it it would go down?

how old are they tem? when i went back and looked, it seems more full of air when they are really young. it seemed to fill up more of food as they got older. then the feathers apeared and you coundnt see anymore

can you post a picture?

they were beautiful photos, thank you, but this little chicks is way bigger than that, it looks like someone has literally blown up one side of it, i shall take a photo tomorrow and post it for you, if thats okay?

this one is only 02 days old, i will definatley post a photo tomorrow

I would say if the little one is that much older, maybe a trip to the vet would be needed. Lets see what some other breeders have to say. If the little one is moving and eating well, i wouldn't worry too much, but lets see what the gang has to offer! then take it from there!!

i will and thanks again

Dawn, I can't help you I'm sorry, but I do hope the little darling is okay.

I've read about this on here somewhere and i think that the person had to **** it and release the air, i have no idea how you would do this safely though so maybe you could ask a vet?

hi dawn this sounds like he has air in the crop its not uncommon it happens when the hen feeds the chick air instead of food there are a couple of reasons a maiden hen or a hen who isnt feeding enough

1. take the chick and gently massage the air towards the beak and expell as much as possible you might have to do this a few times if this is doesnt work gently **** the birds crop with a needle and release the air that way but make sure the needle is steralized the hole will heal itself

How's the babes today?

thank you sdo much Hath, you are one in a million!

i have posted some photos for you to see, but i will do this as you have said, just one thing please, will the hole bleed? or will only air come out, just so im prior warned and prepared incase it was to bleed, so i dont panic, thanks again Love Dawn

all wonderful thank you Buuzbee, except the crop on this little one, but i feel better now Hath has told me this can happen and i now know what to do..........He's a star :)

it wont bleed a lot if at all and the air should come out

Are you going to be brave and do it yourself, or take the little one to the vet? I'm a chicken, I would have to go to the vet or have hubby do it!!! (Laughing out loud)

i darent risk taking it too a vet our vets is about 30-40 minutes travelling there, and i darent keep it form its mummy for that long, so i had to be big a nd brave, i held it and spoke and comforted it whilst my hubby did it, but at least now i know incase it ever happens again, thanks to Hath :)
