Posted August 28, 200519 yr I'm concerned that Timmy might be overfed. How can you know that? What is the average weight for 19 month old male budgie?
August 28, 200519 yr it really depends on the type and size of your budgie. a small pet budgie should weigh anything between 35-40g a large pet budgie/english budgie/show budgie should weigh about 50g. why are you concerned? is it because you feed him mainly seeds? millet sprays? try offering a lot more fruit and veg into his daily diet. its better to only fill his seed pot with the amount of seeds he will consume in one day rather than filling it all the way to the top and blowing the husks away. this way you can be sure of what he is eating.
August 28, 200519 yr No more than 45g for a pet budgie I was told My girl is 42.7 :(Laughing out loud): They want her at least at 43-44! Personally I think pixies estimations seem about right, I'm just stating what my vet told me!
August 28, 200519 yr about a dessert spoon (very roughly, i dont measure it), and he gets at least one peice of fruit or veg a day to nibble on whenever.

August 28, 200519 yr indeed, only the best for my boy he looks in propaortion now, his head used to look really funny on his tiny little body. people still ask me if he is a baby though, he is very slender.
August 28, 200519 yr Anywhere from about 28g - 35g i think for a regular pet budgie, a bit heavier for a show budgie. 2 teaspoons of seed a day as well as some fresh fruits and veggies is a good amount for them. It's good to measure seed as it basically forces them to eat ALL the types of seeds in the mix not just their favourite.
August 28, 200519 yr I never thought of that Bea but thinking about it they do seem to go for the same seed all the time.
August 29, 200519 yr Yep! Blinkie used to always eat only the oat things in the seed, he still eats them first but he also eats everything else!
August 29, 200519 yr Timmy is about 30g. I put him 2 teaspoons of mixed seed and aditional some vegies (carrot or paprika or tomato or salad) or fruit (apple or banana or grape), and once a month a veg-stick. I noticed he always puts away green stuff. But lately he seams to be a little lazy and don't want to fly. And when he do that often land to the floor. Like he's too heavy for lifting. I'm really not sure.
August 29, 200519 yr if he is 30g his weight is fine do you feed him veggies daily? thats the only thing i can suggest doing to improve his diet more. have you had a close look at his breathing? if his breathing is laboured when he is trying to fly and/or he breathes with his mouth open this needs to be checked by a vet, just in case. if he is just being lazy and doesnt want to fly, try sitting him on a perch as far from his cage as possible and leave him to fly back to his cage.
