Posted August 27, 200519 yr i came back from my week holiday ( my neighbour has been kindly feeding and giving fresh water to my birds) but as soon as i came in today i rushed to see my birds and chicks and one of the biggest ones has got dried poop on its feet, i tried warm water and cotton bud, but it doesnt seem to be coming off, only very slowly, im scared of pressing too hard and hurting it, or it getting too upset or codl in my hand. is there a way to soften the poop, now im home i can clean them everyday, i didnt expect them to get it on their feet so soon, their only 01 week old, and so didnt get father to come over and care for chicks, i was only concerned in making sure they were fed and watered everyday, now i feel sick and upset that i didnt arrange for him to come in and take care of the chicks. thank you in advance Love Dawn

August 27, 200519 yr sorry agian Hath, but i know you will be able to advise me on this please....................the box witht he above chicks in (04 altogether in that one) is full and very untidy compared to the other 02 boxes, theirs seem tidier if that makes sense.......should i try emptying some of the debris out of the box, im scared of them getting stuff stook to them, or do i leave it please? Thanks so much for your help and advise Hath, its very much appreciated! Love Dawn
August 27, 200519 yr that should ahve read stuck to them if it didnt make sense, ....Brain is elsewhere today sorry
August 27, 200519 yr hi dawn if the box is really messy clean it out now i have wood shavings in mine and i just take of the top bit, as for the chick 20 mins should be fine but it depends on the hen and how upset she gets but as she was fine with 20 mins i would stick with that
August 27, 200519 yr thanks so much Hath, the hen was absolutely fine with me taking the chick, which suprised me a bit, although i do go in numerous times a day, and even when i held her chick today, i was talking all the time gently to them both, as soon as i went to put the chick back she sort of pulled it back under her though as if to say right buzz off you have had it long enough (Laughing out loud). regarding the shavings, i did put some in before they laid the eggs, when she showed interest in the box, but she threw it out, should i retry or just clear the mess out? That was the last question im sorry, i know your not my personal advisor (Laughing out loud), but i really do appreciate it Love Dawn
August 27, 200519 yr no problem i would just clean it out now but if you breed again put the shavings back in when she puts them out she will give in first
