Great Budgie Book

So, just to let all of you breeders in on this, I found a REALLY great book. It was printed in 1988, and it's called : Budgerigars by Georg A. Radtke.

This book is very informative, and it goes into very thorough explanations about colours, (it explains recessive and dominant), and all the types of budgies, and how to get those types.

One of the best pieces of information is that putting cod-liver oil in your breeding hen's food can virtually eliminate egg-binding. There are also tips on what to do in the event that it happens.

Oh yeah, and there are "Over 100 full-color photos and drawings"

thats very interesting spacey, ive been looking for a good budgie book! where did you get it from please? :P

I bought it from a used bookstore for about $2.50 Canadian. Very cheap.

I'm not sure if it is in print now, but I'm sure it could be available in used store, or you could look online on e-bay or something. Or if a petstore keeps older books in stock...Just keep your eyes open.

i'll check with the book stores over here, see if they can order one for me. it seems to be so hard finding a good book dedicated to budgies

if you type the title in the box you get on google then click search then go to the froogle page you might find it there

i have recommended this book before and will do so again the challenge by gerald s binks a superb book for beginners and experianced alike the only problem i think it is out of print the last one i saw for sale was ?45 :P

I've found Budgerigars and other older books at the library. I had it out a few weeks ago. It was a nice book. There really aren't a lot of current books out on budgies, are there?

th "all about" books are good as well

the cod liver oil will not harm your male budgies in any way but you do not add a lot of oil a few drops then mix the seed well you do not want the seed soaked

Budgerigars by Georg A. Radtke

if any one in the uk wants this book check ebay its nearly always on

just looked and its there, there is also a copy of Best in Show by Gerald S. Binks although this is another oldbook it is well worth reading

i agree, its a very good book. i found my in the marketplace at amazon

Hi,

Just wanted to know if the "Budgerigars" book by Georg A.Radtke and "Budgerigars Enclycopedia" by Georg A.Radtke is the same book? The reason I ask is because that is the only book available on Amazon Canada.

What's the most up to date book you can get that goes into genetics and such? The ones mentioned sound good but it's a bit annoying (to me at least) having to weed out the bad/old information and pick out what still holds true.

Eterri, Sounds to me like your next project - a book on budgie genetics :)

*screams and runs away at the thought*

Honestly... that would give me a headache that I'm not prepared to deal with. :) Just the website mutations page is making me loopy!

I ALSO HAVE A COPY OF THIS BOOK I BOUGHT IT FOR ?3.00 ON EBAY

IT IS CALLED THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BUDGERIGARS

BY GEORG A RADTKE

One of the books I have (but am yet to read) is COLLINS Family Pet Guides BUDGERIGAR by David Alderton ISBN 0-00-712284-5

It has some mutations in it that I'm pretty sure will fool even the most experienced mutation enthusiast.

Another book that contains a mating chart is: BUDGERIGARS all you need to know by Michael S. Christian ISBN 0-07-470361-7

I know you can get that book through chapters.ca

just go to "USED BOOKS" and search under author

this is for those who live in Canada of course.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe they do ship internationally.

I brought a book a couple of years ago (I have a couple actually) one I brought from a book store called Budgerigars -All you need to know by Michael S. Christian, the other one that I have you can get from the pet store.

One thing I do is I just request these books from the library by us, and then read through the book, if I like it enough then I will buy it
