I'm getting a new hen and **** very soon, today mabye. I would just like to know what should I look for apart from the colous of the cere?

make sure there is no discharge around the nostrils, and that his/her eyes are bright, and that the budgies are not all fluffed up and 'miserable' looking. The breeder should ideally have the birds for sale seperated in 2 aviaries, one for the cocks and one for the hens. if you want them to become tame, a good age is about 6 weeks old. much older than this and they can be more difficult to tame. A good breeder will never rush you, and will have the time to discuss your requirements etc. If the breeder seems to want to hurry you up, he's possibly not commited to the budgies in the way that you would want, so id then look for another breeder. good luck, and happy new budgies when you get them

also make sure the birds are close ringed with the year so you know how old the bird is

and choose two of the most active happy and loud ones (i know you might not want it to be loud but they do calm down when away from other birds)

Hey thanks guys. I really appreciate all of your replies. Im getting them in a few hours(its late night shopping in Aus tonight) and that will bring the tally up to 6! There is no noise problem because they're in an aviary in the yard.

YES! SURE THING I just got them about an hour ago! They're so close. In the shop they took turns preening each other and scratching each other and they were kissing heaps and they like rubbed their heads together! She also every now and then sorta "kicked" him away. She just raised her foot when he got too close sometimes. Does this mean anything?

 

(P.S) I'll put the pics up tomorrow afternoon because it's night here and I don't want the flash to disturb them.
