Wow...$25 each, it must be Aussie dollars. In the states, I think it will be more $$$$. I've been looking at this thread and I want a pair of Rosa Bourke's parakeet as well. I think I'm in love :wine ..(Laughing out loud)..

Yes, AUD. I have www.grassparakeet.com bookmarked and they sell Rosa's from $100 US each (they're in Florida though). That would get 2 pairs over here!!!

I can't complain though, I'm dying to get ahold of a couple pairs of lineolated parrots (can't quite work out fauna import laws) & from the same site they are up to $500US and I had a quote from a guy in Australia who wants $6000 for a pair!! :):D

theres HEAPS of Bourkes here where i live... they the same price as budgies. $25 in pet shops !

seen about 20 of them last time i was there. (it is a VERY BIG pet shop with HUGE averys inside so each bird has LOTS of room)

they remind me of a budgie sized galah by apearance. (just more on the ugly side)

they dont appeal to me... but each to there own !

ugly? UGLY? :o I'll have words with you!! :yelling: They are beautiful :P

Wow...I can't believe it. $25.00 AUD Australia Dollars = 18.8838 US Dollars. It's so cheap. Now, I want to live in Australia (Laughing out loud)...Maybe someday I will come for a visit. :(Laughing out loud):

Oh yea...they're not ulgy but lovely. They are beautiful birds.

I think Rosy Bourke's are beautiful, but I like the normal mutation better.

Ah, karen, lineolated parakeets. Aren't they gorgeous? I love them!

I've seen Bourkes for anywhere between 35 and 80$. I've also seen them labeled as "lovebirds" "English Budgies" and "rare parakeets". Who knows? There is a place on Cape Cod (Mass.) that sells them for 70$ a pair, but I don't think they ship.

The one in the petshop here is priced at $195 US. Yikes!

Here is a different mutation, pink split cream

Gorgeous is his name (the mrs is in the nest that's why he's showing off)

They look really scruffy compared to budgies and other parrots but they have their own special charm. :)

(Laughing out loud)... i didnt mean it was like the uglyest bird in the world.... just ugly compared to a galah !!! (Laughing out loud)

we each have our own tastes.... :)

(Laughing out loud) nothing is as pretty as a galah except a Lutino budgie of course!

Another Bourke mutation . . . a cream split pink & she's a snob (maybe because I don't have a mate for her)!!

This one, she's a sweetheart - normal split pink

I really like the pink one in the first picture!! She looks so smooth and creamy like a strawberry milkshake!! :(

She's not as sweet as one though, but with good reason. She refuses to eat any of the grit, blocks or wood, branches anything to cut her beak down & gets cross with me when I have to trim it! I know it is a delicate piece of equipment and I am extremely careful with it. The vet showed me how to safely trim the beak. Luckily she is the only one who needs it as Boss died early June this year, he was my mum's bird and she was on holiday at the time & still hasn't forgiven herself for not being here.

Ah well, beauty does have it's privelige's though.

Awww...so beautiful...Are they as tame as budgies?

I only know budgies costs about Can$26 and anything other than that could run to hundreds :( I saw a pair of lovebirds, hand-tamed for about Can$150. I think they are beautiful. The ones I saw was yellow with red. Very nice! Other than that, they run into hundred of dollars.

I think they can get as tame as budgies, but only if they are handfed. They haven't been kept in captivity as long as budgies and are gentler and quieter. I heard tame ones make nice pets and I've heard one talk before!

You've heard one talk?? That's amazing!! A breeder told me it would be unlikely anyone could get them to talk. Are they clear? I'm going to have to talk more to mine. :D

It was pretty cool. The bird only said "hello" and it wasn't extremely clear, somewhat like baby budgies talk. I was pretty amazed because I had read that they would be unable to talk too! It was a house pet, and rode around on his owners shoulders all day. Very cute!
