Thinning Beak?

Featured Replies

Posted

I am not an expert on budgies but I do have a budgie that hasn't eaten on it's own in over 4 months. I literally dehusk all his seed before he eats them because he can't seem to do it on his own. He does try though.

The last few days I noticed his lower beak has become very thin. When he chirps you can see it has become transparent to the light. To be honest with you, I don't remember if this is normal for a budgie or not. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with his beak? Has anyone know anything about this situation?

I have taken him to an avian vet in town on 4 occasions a 3 to 4 months ago but he said he can't find anything wrong. I will be taking him to another vet in another city pretty soon (I need to find one first).

My budgie is about 9 or 10 years old and seems very healthy otherwise.

Thanks in advance!

Nick

It's definitely time for the opinion of another avian vet. The fact that he can't hull his own seeds means something's up. Please get him to another avian vet as soon as you can and let us know what they find out.

Are you sure the other vet is a certified avian vet? Many dog/cat vets will treat birds and claim to know what they're doing just to get your money.

Does he have access to a mineral block?
