Posted August 15, 200519 yr any tips basics of breeding coz my lutino budgie has been interested in the box. its been almost a year since she 1st came here. what are the things should I look for and what food? supplement? should I give her?
August 25, 200519 yr You don't really need to do anything different to when they are not breeding, except maybe some extra calcium supplement in their water and a little more seed.
August 25, 200519 yr My tips are to be sure that you actually WANT to breed before you do so. For instance, would you be prepared to pull & handfeed the babies if the mother refuses or cannot care for them? Will you be able to find suitable homes for the babies? Would you be able to handle losing your hen to a complication (egg binding?)? Just some things to think about. I don't really support casual breeding, because there are already enough budgies in this world waiting for homes. Why breed more budgies when you could just rescue, buy, or adopt another one? Unless, of course, the breeder decides to keep all of the babies. For that, you'd need a larrrge aviary or cage, though. Just some thoughts
